Check out this cool video filmed by a spectator. I like his commentary and 4 Viper actions.

Thanks for posting, Mike. The four Viperjets were pretty impressive. Is the Ferrari scheme yours or Jose's?

Mike, very impressive flight with all the Vipers in the air.
Got mine back in the air last weekend. This jet is so much fun!

Thank you, Paul. It's fun to have all these Vipers chasing each other around. One challenge is that we all have different types of engines and throttle set ups. It's quite a challenge to fly in tight formation on the first try. We use 2 team formation: 1&2, 3&4. The guy with smallest engine stays in front. Viper (red/whitesilver)1 with JetCat 90rx piloted by Jose. Viper 2 (copper tone)with Jetcat120rx piloted by Dave Euse, Viper 3 (Ferrari) with JL T-12 piloted by Mike Lin and Viper 4 (Yellow/Green) with Jetcat120 piloted by George Manning. Each following jet will try to stay at the lead plane's 4-6 O'clock. It's easier to say than to do. Just doing laps was keeping all of us busy from start to finish. We did a couple of formation landings earlier and it's nicely executed by all pilots. The runway is really nice. Look forward to do that a few more. Now my engine has reached the service time so I need to take it out for maintenance.
Fun and reliable jet.
Mike.

I lost my little adapter to air up the struts. Anyone got any idea on how I can make a new one?

It's a standard 3 mm nipple as found in retracts, valves etc.

Thanks, I took apart one of the step down adapters that are used for the 2mm airline. However the threads are not quite ling enough to push open the check valve.

I'll get it! Thanks!

Actually I don't use adaptor whe I air the struts. The easiest way is to press a 3mm air line firmly into the valve and give it a short burst of air. The burst will quickly fill up the struts with about 160-180 psi of air.

Mike never knew it was that high of PSI, most pumps I have seen don't go that high.

Are there any instructions about how to air these up and refill with oil?

There are no formal instructions from the factory, but we figure out by experimenting. The surge in pressure can be easily obtained by the handheld pump from Craftsman or any portal pump. It's a surge so most pump can handle it. I put 1/2 shock oil and 1/2 air it.

Victor, did you put the Viper in at Eglin?

I warned you not to fly it there if you did do it at Eglin

With a 10,000' runway at Santa Rosa why didn't you wait for the weather to clear and fly with us.....

Sorry that the bird is dead, I do have a few parts from my first Viper same color if you can rebuild it, your for no cost.

Rocky, president Holley flyers.

Hi guys. Just a question on the servo wires routing to the rear of the fuss. Mine is in a normal wire mesh sleeving. Cable tied away from the pipe itself all the way. Min of 20mm gap every where, in most places about 30mm. Should It be ok? Or do you all wrap it in heat resistance sleeving?

Hi Extra300s

Best way I have founf to run the wires is through/under the fin and keep them outside of the rear fuz, if you look back though this thread you will find a few pics of installs I made some time ago.

Update
"There is very little that has not been covered on the Viper within this thread if you care to look through it, for this particular question I would look at post #837 and #1244"

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz1_2fX9U0o I finally have some good video of my JL Viper jet being flown on a bitterly cold winters day as you can judge by the headgear and gloves!
The engine is an old Simjet 3000 which is rather more thrust than the plane needs. Most flying by Dave was at half throttle.. It was the first flight on the engine which had recently been converted to kero start. The settings were not optimised and are much better now. Still is a great plane.

I agree with the others, the more I fly it the more I like it. Gorgeous, smooth looping maneuvers. More roll coupling than I like with rudder, but I'll get that mixed out when I have a bit more time to work with it. Slows down nicely (with crow), easy to land.

Guys, some advice please.

I ran off the runway this morning into the rough and bent the pin in the nose gear. I ended up removing the 2mm airlines to get the gear assembly out where I could work with it. It was a bit of a pain to straighten the pin, but I managed. The 2mm airline uses an external collar which appears to be pressed down over the tubing and fitting after the tubing is installed. I'm used to working with 3mm airline and the thread-on collars. I've tried several different methods but I can't get the collars installed tight against the fitting the way that JL installed it. Can anyone clue me into the technique?

Thanks for the help,
Greg

First of all, be thankful that you could save the pin. Those things are a pain to replace cause they are an odd size. Just ask essyou, lol.
I have removed my gear before and was able to press the ring back in place with hemostats. It takes a little effort and be careful not to break the nipple. It will work.
Enjoy your Viper.
Paul
