Jeff,
You can purchase Jet-A and turbine oil directly at S. Albany Airport ($$$)or buy K-1 Kero at a gas station($) about a couple of miles from the airport (on Rte 9W,I believe).
See you at Cap Jets VIII.

Unfortunately the Starship is currently grounded due to a bearing issue in the Starboard TP Gearbox which resulted from a gearbox lubrication fitting leak in flight at the First in Flight jet rally. The MW44 TP's have undergone continuous improvements / upgrades since my delivery in late 2009 and I was planning to have these incorporated this fall after the flying season. The lube leak has altered that schedule as the 2 gearboxes are currently in WREN's shop in the UK for inspection and upgrades.

Mike Murphy and his team at WREN / UK are now out on summer holiday this week and therefore their schedule is my schedule. When it comes to my Starship.....patience has been my best ally as it did bring me the WREN MW44 Tp's 14 years after the design was first flown with a pair of ST-2300’s !!

As to the WREN MW44TP's, until the lube leak, these 2 units have performed flawlessly in my Starship and I could not be more pleased and I'm sure that Frank who has flown the Starship many times would fully agree.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Capitol Jets 2012.

Best Regards,
Kerry S.

Hello Jeff.D

I just want to chime in with info regarding the turbine oil on site.

Art was correct, they do sell the Jet-A on site. Hoewever, turbine oil is not sold on site!
I do see on a previous thread, that big Mike from the Newburyport area will be bringing along 11 qrts of Shell 500 for sale.
At that price they will go quickly!
I have some older cans of the EXXON- 2389, Your welcome to have a couple of those if you like.
In the event Mike can't make the event,
please plan accordingly for your oil needs.

Rick,
If you still have them, please bring the wing tanks for the F-4D SKYRAY that I purchased from you a while ago. Just toss them in your vehicle or trailer and I'll collect them at Cap Jets VIII. See you in S. Albany.
Thanks in advance.

Art ARRO, Sr. Jet Pilot

Hi Art, a quick note to advise that I have them (2 pr.) and will deliver them to you on Friday.

See you then.

Hey Bob,

As you and I well know, we former blue suiters have always learned to cope with almost any wind condition during our landings to a fixed runway on the planet.
Including strong X-wind conditions! And sometimes, even a marginal tailwind.
Being the gentlemen that we are...and,
Of course, not wanting to take away from any Naval prestige, however.
Those "Navy" types have grown up constantly seeking the assistance of their carrier Captians to "turn their runway" into the wind to land...nough said.

Thanks Frank. I'm good on oil, but will take advantage of the kerosene that can be obtained at the local gas stations. That is one luxury that we in the Great White North have never experienced. We pay approx $2.50 per L ($9.50 per US gal) for K-1.

Cheers,

Jeff Daly

Frank,
I was mainly referring to the flare or lack of it in some cases -but you bring up a good point

As the runway is not on a turntable, despite being close to a railroad yard, we'll have to go with what we've got It should be fun- no matter what the X-wind components may be.
;-)
