Default Reaction 54 with HD Camera

Reaction 54 with HD camera. I'm still experimenting with the settings .... but the video is better than I thought it would be.

Excellent video! Nice, clear picture. How 'bout some details on the camera and installation?

Next time we need more aerobatics. Was hoping with the rear-facing camera we would see a pull to vertical and consecutive rolls

I agree pulling a vertical and rolling is a must do manover with a rear facing camera. Nice video though nevertheless.

Nice link. I think the goggle mount would work for temporary installation on our models?

The hat mount looks cool too. Maybe I can upgrade my DIY hat mount with my Flip HD camera.

Btw, nice video Bob, and nice tribute to Mr. Orr.

The mount is made of lite-ply (1/4 inch thick for bottom, 1/8 inch thick for sides). The R54 canopy is a great attachment point for it ... because the canopy itself is sturdy (fiberglassed 1/4 inch balsa). I used blind nuts on the inside. I figured the R54 would be a good airplane for this camera ... (the R54 could probably carry a full size network camera .... )

This camera model also has GPS. When the video is downloaded using their (Contour) software, a window is displayed showing the track and speed. The track is placed over a Google map. (I haven't figured out yet how to get that GPS window into a video).

The GoPro is actually a more popular camera of this type. I went with Contour because of its smaller frontal area/profile.

I will experiment further with the different resolutions and frame rates. Bob

Bob,
Keep us posted on your experiments. I'd be curious to see a flight filmed from the ground. It doesn't look like there is a zoom feature so I'd like to see how good it is at capturing a whole flight, etc. ie. if you mounted it on your cap while you flew.
