I was also confused as to which DTE oil to use so I did some reasearch. Mobile uses the DTE label on a whole series ofoils. Also they use the terms Lite, Medium, and Heavy to indicate viscosity across their family of oils. I have looked through Mobile's spec sheets and information on their website and have come to the following conclusions:

For our turbineswe should not be usingDTE24 Hydraulic Oil. This isintended to be used inhydraulic systemsand equipment.

We should be using DTE Machine Oil, ISOGrade 32, SAE Grade 10. This is machine oil intended for lubrication. I've also seen this refered to as circulating oil. In their literature they mention stationary turbines as one potential application.That's thereason somestarted using this version of DTELite in their models.

Due to the confusion I'm sure that a lotof guys have usedhydraulic oil in their turbines. It may work fine but the machine oil is much better suited for our purpose.

just fyi, no dte in kingtech anymore. Last I knew, they removed it from the list.

I agree with Joeflyer, DTE Light Machine (or Circulating) oil is the correct lubricant.

This oil is recommended by the manufacturer of my Merlin engins, VT 80 and M 140.

I have two Wren turbines that I bought from Ron, the 44 and 75. Can this oil be used with those turbines? What ratio should you mix it with kerosene?

Wren recommends a minimum of 5% ( 1 quart oil to 5 gallons fuel) ratio on all motors being produced today. This also applies to any of the earlier turbines. The added oil content is cheap insurance against bearing failure.
The DTE Lite is much more user friendly. Compare the MSDS sheet of DTE and that of a Turbine Oil.
I have used more than 20 gallons of DTE without any issues.

I have run the earlier 54 TP motors with a ratio of 1.5 quart to 5 gallons with no signs of problems. Our motors now incorporate a lube restrictor that allows more flow to the bearings, so I think that the current ratio is more than sufficient.

I would check local oil distributors... Graingers is higher than hell... I buy it local here in Austin at Allied Oil Distributors for $ 82.00 / 5 gal. , and it just went up... Last time it was $78.00... Hope you can find some cheaper than Graingers !! This oil is approved fot Jet Central Engines, and that's all we have been running for a very long time.. No issue's. I ran Aeroshell 500 only in my AMT's for 15+ years and never had any issues, but I fly/sell Jet Central now and the best thing about the DTE is that it's Human Friendly !!

Not only does Wren list it as an allowable oil, the latest manual with my Wren 100 says it is the oil they use themselves.

I have been using DTE Light product code 98 T 887 for the last 2 years in my Wren's Simjet's and a JC 120 SE so far so good
but I just noticed that the product code is different on your Drum am I using the wrong one ?[&o]

Yup, that's it. If you click on the APPLICATIONS tab in Harry's link you will see that it is recommended for turbine use. My pail is labeled the same asRon's.

Note that this is lubricating/circulating oil NOTHYDRAULICOIL.
