Default BVM Air Fill Valve- How do u get air in them?

I never had any of these on previous jets. I thought I'd splurge a little and get some fancy high buck valves. So what's the trick to get air in them. I've tried everything in my shop.

You can use this:

or a 'normal' car tyre pump fitting should work, or you can get some airline and push it in the hole in the top (ignoring the threaded bit).

Bvm does sale the screw on attachment but I just a piece of air line and insert it into the hole. It works best that way, specially if u have more than on fill valve.

We usually just SELL them.....LOL.
Fender is pretty close....inserting it is easier of you cut a bevel on the end of the pump airline.
Shown in the photos are two methods....one involving the screw on Air Fill Chuck BVM #2192, and an alternate with the beveled air line.
Also shown is a football inflation needle screwed into the Air Fill Chuck. Cut the end off the needle and deburr it before inserting it into the air line.

The BVM valve comes with some white tube that's the correct size to insert into the valve for filling, well it does in the UK.

OPPS! Thanks anyway guys, Stupid me!, I finally figured out that I had a fitting downstream in the system leaking. Fixed the leak and everything works fine now with my trusty old mini 12v portable compressor from wallmart and the stock nozzle.

tapered air line works the best.. just cut it to a taper like show in Harley's post, and taper it a tiny bit w sandpaper.. no need for a bit....

I use many of these and I attach airline tubing to the air pump, then I push the free end of the airline tubing into the fill valve. Sometimes a slight bevel cut allows it to fit inside the valve easily. I don't mess with fancy connectors anymore.

For those wanting to use a chuck, I like this one from BVM because of the swivel feature. Dreamworks sell it too

Here's my idea that many are using. Football inflating needle cut off to 3/4 inch. Then slide 1 inch piece of air line on it. Just push in and seals at end of needle. Alittle thin CA will keep tubing from coming off after many uses. I'll try to get a pic out soon. Scott

My valve started leaking air without using it.

Building a jet and last time that presurized the sistem to 100psi it was all ok. Now a few month later the valve leaks air instantly. Any sugestion?

Tried some car dashboard silicon to moisten the inside but did not worked, tried vaseline and did not worked.

Not happy having a expensive feed valve that ruined by itself.

Cheers

Juan

I've seen them ruined by pushing the tube in too far! They can leak after one insertion like that... If that method is used a sleeve should be added to stop the tube being inserted too far. It not good when they are returned as faulty because of this...[:@] I've been had!

Insert the airline JUST deep enough to clear the beveled end to avoid damaging the internal check valve.

Thanks Harley, this is less than I've been doing so I appretiate the heads up and will revise my process to prolong the valve. Which I really like btw. I'm building the 80" Sabre right now and it has no less than 6 of these.

I just learned the approach from this thread; rather than screwing a fitting onto the external threads to fill. Just insert the tube (hold in place with light pressure - only insert a short distance) and fill. Yes, the bevel at the end helps. This works perfectly for me. Now I appreciate the short length of white tubing that comes with the valve. This is sooooo easy. BVM Air Fill Valve is even nicer than I previously thought!
