Mechanical Gear Doors (no air)
Been looking for ideas regarding opening and closing gear doors without using rams.
I could use servos, but was more interested in doing it mechanically with wires, bungees and springs etc.
Many Years ago I had a warbird where the retracts basically pushed open the doors and pulled them closed again with a bit of fishing line.
For simple gear door setups and with the trend towards electric retracts, thought a thread on it might be interesting to others as well.
So if anyone has any details/pics of what you have done or seen please post them.
I have some pics (mainly nose doors) found on here and other places, please claim them if they are yours and can post more details of what you done.

RE: Mechanical Gear Doors (no air)
A clubmate uses mechanical methods to close nose gear doors but adds a small
rare earth magnet to help hold them closed. The extending leg pops them open.
I've tried it on my model's rearward closing nose gear door, the extended leg
holds it forward & the airflow blows it back in flight & the magnet holds it shut.
Working fine so far. - John.

Yes it is very simple but effective, probably have to bend a few bits of wire to get it right, but I suppose all the spring in the wire needs to do is keep them open as the leg/wheel will do the actual opening

Could you tell us who makes those nice (I assume) spring-loaded hinges for your nose gear doors? Perhaps also a source for ordering, been looking for some like that.
