The Navy as (re)approved flying on Friday, November 9th! The event is back to the original dates of Friday-Sunday, November 9-11. There is also "bonus" flying on Monday, Nov 12, for anyone that wants to stay a little longer.

Hey Gang,
I received approval today from the Navy today to hold Pensacola Jets 2012 at Holley Field in Navarre, FL. The dates are Veteran's Day weekend, 9-11 November.
As you may know, Holley is a U.S. Navy training field, two paved 3500 ft x 150 ft runways, north/south and east/west. This link has info: http://airportnavfinder.com/airport/KNKL/
I will work with local hotels in Navarre to secure a group rate. I'll post more on that as it develops. Rob Baker has offered to serve as CD again for the event. We will try to get the website updated and in place soon for registrations. More info on that as it develops, as well. FYI, the Pensacola Jets 2011 website is still active and can be found here: http://www.alvinrc.com/jet/ Please don't use it right now to register! Wait until it says 2012. But, it is still a good source of info about the event.
We had a pretty good turnout last year as we got this event up and running again, so hopefully we can build on that this year. Thanks again to all you guys who showed up to help the Holley Flyers RC Club restablish Pensacola Jets.
That is all for now. Carry on.
Cheers,
Sluggo

Hey FB, great to hear! Look forward to seeing you this year.
Danno, all good questions. Right now, leaving trailers on-site is approved. Based on last year, I will say at this time camping/RV-ing on-site is not. However, there is a new base commander at NAS Whiting, and at his request I am preparing a briefing on the event and it's history. I will attempt to get some relief on this issue. The best security for the event is having some guys staying on-site.
As far as hours, unless I hear otherwise, they are 0800-sunset, starting on Friday the 9th. That will also be set-up day for tents and porta-potties, so it might be a little busy first-thing. Even so, with two runways we should have plenty of room.
Plus, it was reported back to us by the field manager that the base security patrol gave us a great report. The field was left clean each evening, everything was secured and properly left where we said it would be in the event plan. Perhaps this will help us get approval of RV/camping this year, even if on a 'probationary' status.
Thanks,
Randy

Yes, I agree. Santa Rosa would be nice - smooth runway, good grass, wide open area, convenient to hotels and restaurants. We did ask, but were denied.
So Holley it is. On the other hand, the N-S and E-W runway layout at Holley makes life pretty good.

UPDATE: The actual Veteran's Day holiday is Monday, 12 November. I have received word that after the cleanup first thing Monday, the field will be open to club flying. Any Pensacola Jets participants that would like to stay and fly more on Monday are welcome to do so.

Is there a small RV park close to holly field? it may be a solution for the RV guys and since we can leave trailers on the site I can hold a couple in my 6x12 this year.

We'll see you guys there! Got word at Michigan Jets that your event was a go. Looking forward to it.
Also, Jacqui of "Jackie Sacks" custom wing bags will be there as well. Should anyone need bags she can hook you up. That is,,,when she's not not calling for me!!!

Great to hear, Larry! Look forward to seeing you at Holley.
BTW, does Jaqui have sacks that fit a Skymaster L-39?

I figured the campers would stay at the camp site and just drive over to the field and fly. Just a thought

Just not very practical to move a 40' camper trailer, set it up, then take it back down and set it up again several times a day. I hope you can get them to allow it, we did it in the past.

Bean,
That would work in some cases, but in David's and mine and others too, the camper is the airplane trailer... They call them Toy Haulers... It's all or nothing.

Just would not work. Mine is the airplane hauler, so I either camp on site or find another meet. Unfortunate because this was/is a good place to fly and a good time of year for a meet.

Gents, I have submitted the event briefing to the Whiting skipper, and have included a request for some relief on RV's. It may take a few days to hear back, so be patient.
I offered to operate under a "probationary" status; i.e. give us a one-time permission and see how it goes, with the understanding that if we mess it up somehow, the RV/camping issue is dead forever. Hopefully this will be granted. I also mentioned that if security was the issue, the best security we could have would be some RV guys on the field overnight.
Again, please be patient, let this request work its way through the chain-of-command, and keep your fingers crossed!
