Answers for the Jet Event CD
Rather than putting CDs on the spot, why not help them form a consensus to the question -
Could a electric powered turbo prop plane be allowed to fly at a jet event?
Could a electric powered turbo prop plane be allowed to fly at a jet event?

RE: Answers for the Jet Event CD
Remember when you vote boys and girls...
How often is a jet meet at any given field or club, probably once a year.
Now consider how many different events a year that one could bring a none turbine powered turbo prop to that same field? 10, 20?

RE: Answers for the Jet Event CD
If I were CD of a jet rally, the only props I would allow are tubine powered ones. The only electrics allowed would be EDF jets. Foamie for fun electric props and helis would be allowed after the Jet guys are finished flying. No gas or nitro would be allowed at all.
Basically the same rule that nearly all jet rallys I go to encourage.

RE: Answers for the Jet Event CD
What is an electric powered turbo prop??? A turbo prop, by definition, (I think) is a prop plane powered by a turbine, thus the word turbo. If it is electric powered then it isn't a turbine. So unless I am missing something here, what is an electric powered turbo prop? (an oxymoron perhaps??)

RE: Answers for the Jet Event CD
Since it is electric powered, then the term "turbo prop" refers only to the styleof ariframe that is modeled after, nothing more,
For example, the term "prop jet", a jetmodeled airframe driven by a propeller.... is it that difficult? an oxymoron? really?

RE: Answers for the Jet Event CD
This should not be such a huge ordeal.... It is a JET RALLY.... What makes it fly is a non issue... If it is a JET model, I don't care if it is rubber band driven Dynamax Fan unit .... NO PROPS. The Gas Turbine powered Propeller driven aircraft are not Jets !!!. It seems to be widely accepted to allow these aircraft to fly at JET RALLY'S... I personally don't have a big problem with that. Again though, they are not JETS. That to me is the only issue at hand here.. NOT nitro, electric, rubber band, solar, nuclear, telepathic, or any other means of propulsion of a JET Model. And of course they must be Radio Controlled. Not hand launch, free flight, control line, etc... It's kinda like if I went to see the Worlds Cup Regatta, and Miss Budweiser came ripping down through there... I would say, " What the hell was that " .,..

RE: Answers for the Jet Event CD
As I said in the other thread, jet flyins are AMA Class C events, which means that there are *NO* rules other than what the club/CD that is holding the event makes up. They could limit it to steam-powered gyrocopters if they wanted to...
As a CD of a jet event, I think you'd have a hard time telling a guy who just spent $7000+ on a turbo-prop model (have you looked at the price of turbo-prop units [X(] ) and had to get a turbine waiver to fly it, that he couldn't fly at a jet event. You most certainly *could* tell them that, but I think that they would be rightly upset - especially if someone else there whipped out a turbine-powered glider and you let them go. Both of those aircraft need to fit into the prevailing pattern to be safe, but as a CD, I think you have to let them fly UNLESS YOU SPECIFICALLY SPELLED OUT THAT THEY COULD NOT IN YOUR PRE-EVENT ANNOUNCEMENTS. Same thing with EDF's and IC ducted fans, I think you have to let them fly at a jet event unless you state AHEAD OF TIME, that they can't. Its all about letting people know what the story is so that they don't waste time coming to your event and then not being able to fly.
For me, turbine-powered helicopters in the same pattern are a no-go for safety reasons - that's a collision waiting to happen. Either have another area where they can fly, put them into a specific demo time slot, or tell them not to come.

RE: Answers for the Jet Event CD
Because turboprop planes are relatively rare there is not much hassle with them showing up at jet rallies. The same goes for turbine assisted gliders. Now if ten or twenty of them started to show up I'm sure the CDs would change the rules.
If I owned a turboprop I would definitely call ahead to make sure I could fly it because it is NOT a jet. On the other hand I wouldn't hesitate to take it to an event that specifically states "no jets" because it is NOT a jet.

When you say no nitro, you are eliminating ducted fans. You get a new trailer yet?
