Default BAE Hawk vs F-16 (fun poll)

F-16s used to be the plague of scale models at jet events, but it seems like the title has been rapidly overthrown by the influx of Hawks from all directions, sizes, and versions.

How many of you own or fly a Hawk or a Falcon?

Let's keep it down to turbine models for the time being.

Have fun!

Well if I saw a real hawk I could care less. If I see a real F16 I want to go touch it. Same goes for the model.

Hawks are ugly as heck and are trainer jets.....

But on the flip side they perform well as models. They will knife edge much better then a F16 will but they are still ugly at the end of the day and I dont even want to look at it.

I have a Skymaster 1/4 Hawk 100 and 1/6 F-16 and I enjoy flying the Hawk more. The Hawk is much more precise and it knife edges for days. I grew up around F-16s, so I have a soft spot for them (which probably explains why I've owned 4 turbine variants), but once airborne I'll take the Hawk any day of the week.

I understand what you are saying. We are pbly looking at the two most popular scale models if our time. Im obviously biased, but a dirty looking Hawk with all the antennas, sensors, slotted flaps......sure looks awesome.

This is my large Hawk 100. Unfortunately my 1/6 scale F-16 lost an argument with a tree, but just ordered a larger scale F-16 as a replacement. Really like both airframes.[8D]

At IMAA flyins, I won't get out of my chair (or even look up) to see someone torque roll. At jet meets, the same goes for a Hawk flying. I've seen enough to last me a lifetime. I'm sure that doesn't matter to the guys flying them, but YAWN... [:-]

I big F-16 is still fun to watch though.

i have had the pleasure of flying the hawk in a few scale sizes and stretched all their legs
very precise model

but my f 16 ooooohhhhhh
there is really nothing sexier than a nice 10 mph head wind and turning inbound into a 60 degree alpha across the entire length of the field

then again i still want a sm hawk 100 anybody got one haahha

Although the Hawk is a popular model, you don't see many of them on the west coast.

I assumed David has the larger, 1/4.5 size FEJ Hawk.

I'ts good you brougt this poll up as i was a bit dissapointed as i expected to see some videos of F-16 flying at Kentucky event and i only see a couple ,one taking off and one taxying where for the hawk you can see whole flights, same happened to some other events i watch videos of and i started wondering if the time has come where people indeed prefer to fly something else than F16.
i entered the world of jets with an F16 1/8 which i found to be very suitable for a begginer and now i have the 1/6 still unflown due to medical reasons and i like watching videos of this scale especially.

Here is a video of a really nice F16 that was at Kentucky jets. Very good smooth pilot also. Wish it was grey and looked like a war plane though...........

Hola David. Hector. I remember my first jet. It was a Byron F-16 no retracts.
Ans I flew the hell out of it. You should remember it.

Paul,

I agree with *everything* you've written on RCU, right up to the point where you said "Best looking plane out there" [:'(]

There no Hawk in existence that looks as nice in flight as the F-16 in the Kentucy Jets video gunradd pointed out above. The Hawk looks like a pregnant Guppy in comparison!

And for all of you guys espousing the knife edge capability of your Hawks, when was the last time you saw *any* full-scale jets flying knife-edge for more than 2 seconds? Save the knife-edge passes for the sport jets and 3D prop flying! [:'(]

For the record, the real F16 knife edges. Just roll 90 degrees and don't do anything. Pretty simple.

I personally could care less if the full scale hawk is capable of doing a knife edge pass. My model can and it puts a big grin on my face.

Bob,
Your lack of interest in Hawks shows in your lack of knowledge.
Need to spend more time on youtube so you know what a Hawk can do.
just one example:

Sorry Scott I missed the hawk doing a 9 G turn with full afterburner in that video. I did see an ugly plane with an ugly paint job...........
