P140 RX feedback please
I am thinking a P140 rx would be perfect for my current project.
There is very little info about this Jet Cat turbine around real owner feedback, fuel consumption and spool time etc.
Can any P 140 owners chime in here.
I have a Merlin 140 in a UF and love the Merlin, but want to try something different!
Cheers,
Mav

I only have 51 flights on mine and it has run flawless. I fly 10 minute flights not including startup, taxing and landings and I am burning half a tank of fuel. Plane carriers 7.5 litres of fuel.

How do you find the spool time?
I plan to put this in a JL F22 3.5 litre tank!

RE: P140 RX feedback please
Hi Mav.
I have been flying this summer with my Jet Legend L-39 powered by a Jetcat P140RX and I can only say that I'm pleased. Its a very nice engine to work with. No hesitation on start-up and the spool-up time is very good, especially if you have the throttle at 30-40%. The the spool-up time is almost zero.
My L-39 weight 20 kg take-off ready and the performens is really good.
Please look at the video below. Im flying on a scale meeting in Arboga/Sweden. Because of very unsteady wind the first landing attempt goes to slow and I have to take it all over again. But you can see that the P140 is responding really good and saves the plane for another try.

Good luck,
Jocke

RE: P140 RX feedback please
Jocke,
Thanks for feedback and vid.
I can see It pushes your L39 nicely with short take off.
Your vid has convinced me I think that this is a good choice for my project.
I am looking for balance of flight time weight and power. Seems to have it all. I am yet to hear a bad report except for one tail wheel fail fixed under warranty!
My main concern is if a solenoid issue, cannot be serviced by the user!

RE: P140 RX feedback please
Unless you are short of $$, why not get a 180rx?
Same weight, same diameter, and will burn less fuel than a 140 at a 140 level of thrust....so same or better flight times. Plus, there will be absolutely no doubt about the takeoff rolls.
The larger engine can be throttled back for use in a smaller model but a smaller engine cant be throttled up for a potential future larger model, and then you're buying the bigger engine anyway.
Food for thought,
Don.

Mav,
Why not stick with a known quantity? If you love the Merlin 140 in your UF, why not get another?
I love the M90 in my F-16, so I bought a M140 for my latest project. I have only one ground run and one flight on my F-4 and so far am impressed with the M140's starting, throttle response, and fuel consumption. If you look at the last engine test comparison in RCJI you'll see that theM140 is smaller, lighter, has more thrust, and better fuel consumption than the P140. I don't trust the manufacturer's numbers and consider the RCJI reports good unbiased data. Oh, by the way the Merlin also costs less (at least in the USA).

Yes I love my Merlin 140! Best Turbine I have ever owned.
I figured P140 rx is the latest and wanted to give it a try. Slighlty more thrust 32 pounds and yes 150 grams heavier, however includes the solenoids.
I have just pulled the trigger on the P140 will be here next week through Peter at Intairco.
I am hoping it has great spool time. Will post my comparison and thoughts next week. If not happy will sell it to you cheap and get another Merlin 140 LOL!!!!
Variety is the spice of life so they tell me Joe!!!!!

The solenoid connection is the std plug, the new valves are supplied as mounted in the RX turbines, complete with JR type plug under the cover and could be changed...

The 180RX, has been available, and will be available again soon. Apparently with a few new tweeks. I agree, that with the same weight, and dimensions, its a bigger but rewarding investment. And the fuel economy is where you place the throttle.

It'll be interesting to see how the 140 pushes the F-22.

Most JL F-22s videos I've seen are with 160N+ turbines.

My jl F22 flew first with a P80 for the first 12 flights which was fine and it flew around and a decent speed as well and then with a P120se which was a great combo.

RE: P140 RX feedback please
I will be flying with a P140 for now.
Once I have stick time, I will measure engine suitability.
If need be I will simply put a P180RX in it if required.
Different flying styles also suit different set ups and engines!
I cant wait to fly this thing. I have a feeling it will suit my flying style!!
