RE: BVM F-100
Hi Mike
Very nice finish and weathering! The hot section of my HUN is airbrushed also. It's looking good but for perfect scale it's done to well.
What is the dryweight of your F-100?

RE: BVM F-100
Hi Rainer,
The overall dry weight came out to 18.495 Kg, with a JetCat P-160 as you can see from the photos.
Your F-100F looks most impressive!!! Especially with that background. These models require an enormous amount of effort and dedication, and you are definitely a very talented builder.
Are you planning to build another BVM F-100?

Many years ago i built with enormous effort and passion a extremely detailed aluminium polish finish BVM stretched HUN. The most scale-parts like navigations lights, fuel tank caps, cockpit parts, seat belt, rear view mirrors, ladder, operated canopy, drogue chute package and much more are built and molded by my self.
The F-100 flew just dreamlike. Last week, i lost my F-100 because the radio failed. At this winter i will build a new, great deal better ''Cutter'' F-100 F 63948 (Dean Cutshall colorsheme). At my next Super Sabre, i try to plank the hot section with thin titanium sheet like Grer Wright.
Here some pictures of my 1st North American F-100 F Super Sabre.
Best regards, Rainer Willisch / Switzerland

after seeing your f100 in the other thread, it makes me sick to hear you lost it... so sorry to hear that
Hope you do one even better next time (don't know how to improve your masterpiece though)
good luck

We can do that... probably will bring the electra though. F100 is taking a break until BITW

Jack, You should come over with your F-100 and fly it at Tomcats and then help me finalize mine.

Found a link to a restoration of a F-100 full scale. Just happens to be the same scheme I am doing but also has some very good detail photos...Click on restorations on home page.

An observation. Every photo I have ever seen of a completed BVM F-100 model, seems to be absolutely stunning. It must be in the genetics of the model. I hope I can do mine justice, but the building skills that some of you guys have!!!!!.

Proves my point exactly! Another stunning F-100.
I really like the SEA camo. These jets were built for combat. If I can convince my self that I will be able to see it, that will be my chosen scheme.
Are those Pro mark graphics??

Thanks for the compliments, but the credit goes to Mark Taylor... I'm just glad he decided to sell it
Markings are all by Pro Mark
regarding visibility, it all depends on the time of day. But in general: IT SUCKS!!!! it is really really hard to see. And once it is on the air, unless you are flying with the sun in your back, it is just a dark/grayish plane, it loses all details. I guess that is the camo doing what was intended to do...
Luckily, the plane is big and the wingtanks definitely help.
I have flown my dad's Metalkote one a lot, and it is much much easier to see
On the other hand, there are 10 silver F100's for each camo around, so it makes it more unique. And the camo is also much easier to repair, touch up, just spray some similar color and you are done...
Keep us posted on your choice

My F-100 has been painted in silver. While not as stunning as Flite Metal, it'll make for a less delicate Sunday flyer. I hope it flies as well as everyone says. Maiden should be in a few weeks.

Hi Michael
thanks for the compliment.
Thedelivery timeofmy new BVM-F100 is 3-4 week. I want buildthe secound a great deal better with much morebits and bobsthen my first.
My first HUM was 15.8 Kg with a 200N Frank Raptor. My ambition for the new one is 15.0 kg
As much of one from special extras: For my first HUN i developed and testet last jear a exhalation/vapor system for the condense air (mist) on the wingtips. Now ist's ready for the new one.Really phat!

Jack, I have considered doing a camo F-100 and yours is awesome. I was concerned about the visibility of the camo but the flite metal f-100's are not really that easy to see in the air either. Mine is still in primer but has orange on the rudder, wing tanks, and nose and it is still just a silhouette in the air.

Although not as flashy, your painted one is probably more scale - unless its a model of Cutshall's meticulously restored one...

RE: BVM F-100
The Super Sabre was designed as a fightertool . It's a weapon, not a furniture. So the perfect look is not important.
I think a lot of the scale builder build to exactly and to nice for absolutelyperfect scale.
In fact, generally the F-100 is not polish - unless the "Cutter" HUN (it's a mirror). For the Cutter HUN Flitematal is the perfect stuff.
Other case, i prefer paint colour for the silverlook. It's easier and more realistic.

Actually, while doing some research on the one I built, I ran across a guy who worked on them in the AF when they were silver (not camo). He told me that the operational ones were actually painted with an aluminum paint and were more uniform-color and not as shiny as most models you see. The one below looks painted like that.

Bob, thanks for that info. The few full scale Huns I've seen at USAF museums were not very shiny.
Here's my Hun. There is nothing shiny about the finish.

I would say that your F-100 is probably more scale in appearance to an F-100 when it was in service than a FliteMetal one...

All the references state "silver" or "silver laquer". Said they began painting them silver to retard the effects of corrosion, but leaving the aft fuselage section unpainted because of heat.
I couldnt find many silver painted C models. Mostly bare metal. Some D models were also bare metal.
