Default Futura 1.9m control horn question

Hi all,

Need some help. I am building the 1.9m version of the futura.

I noticed that the FRP control surface horns provided in the kit are only 0.95 mm thick. Is this sufficient as they really appear to be too thin?

Thanks.

Just finishing at 1.9 Futura. No issue with the thickness / strength of the horns IMO. Double horn setup on all surfaces except for the flap.

I'm building a Tomahawk 1:3 Hawk which runs exactly the same setup - many Hawks flying around the world and never a word re a horn failure.

Make sure you have nice hysol fillets on all the glue points.

Good luck with your build.

Default RE: Futura 1.9m control horn question

Hi all,

Another control horn question...

I was looking at the photo in Post #77 in http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10..._4/key_/tm.htm

I noticed that there is a difference in the type of horns supplied with my kit and also their quantity.

Comparing to the photo in the link above, I seem to be short of 4 horns (top of first photo) but have 2 extra larger horns (bottom of first photo).

Can someone advise on the following?

1) do I use the larger horn or the smaller horn for the flap? The manual shows both are usable... I think.

2) Using provided flap clevis, the gap of the clevis is much wider than the thickness of the flap horn (photo #2 & 3)... is this acceptable??I would think that the horn would be able slide on the clevis pin because of this. Will this result in slop in the flap?

Thanks.

Isaac

These 2 photos are from the softcopy of the build photos (manual) that I have.

But which horn should I use? Both are of the same thickness and which are far smaller than the gap of the flap clevis.

Thanks.

The flap horn should have the ball link attached to it as per the manual photo you have posted. The other large metal clevis is usually used on metal servo arms, not at the control surface end.

Hi Mark,

Thanks... I had glued on the bigger horn... I had to cut it shorter in order for the horn to sit nicely into the flap.

Will be using a ball end as advised.
