Making an Ultra Flash into an F-20UF
This will be the second conversion from sports jet into pseudo scale jet. As the Ultra Flash looks a little like an F-20 I thought of a refreshing change from the standard Comp-AFT standard schemes and the over used Formula 1 team schemes. I am also going to utilise the current aggressor schemes used by the US Air Force, US Navy and US Marines.
I will leave the unavailing of the scheme just prior to painting her.
After installing all the equipment into the airframe I subsequently removed it all to make the painting easier. The first job I did was to sand down the airframe with scotchbrite to give it a surface finish for the primer to adhere too. After that process was complete to save weight I started the panel lines using some self manufactured panel tape. This tape is just normal vinyl cut into 0.8mm wide strips. As you can see I used similar panel lines of an F-5E to give me a rough design as we used the BAe Hawk panel lines for the Ali's Futura.
Tonight I have finished the wings and Horizontal stabiliser (tailplane here in the UK). People may ask why the panel lines, well if you have seen my previous paint projects you would have noticed that I love weathering so in this thread you will also see me weathering the model.
Enjoy the following photos.

RE: Making an Ultra Flash into an F-20UF
This evening I finished all the panel lines on the Ultra Flash. Tomorrow morning I will give the model a coat of 2k primer over the whole model. I was hoping to have a little more time on the model but two models arrived today, Ali's FEJ F16 for installation of a new large undercarriage and lights, also the Tomahawk Large Futura for build and paint for Aerotrim wing bags. I will be adding a build and paint thread to RCU for the Aerotrim Futura.

Making a very hard job look very easy again Phil can't wait to see the end result, another masterpiece I'm guessing, I would've loved to be in this situation when I was speckling the inside of my Flash, took a muppet like me what seemed like hours to mask everything really finishes off the inside though.

Does the chart tape:
Come off before the colour leaving lines in the primer?
Come off after the colour leaving white lines in the colour?
Not come off at all leaving raised lines in the final finish?
John.

Hi John,
It usually comes off after primer so colour fills in the depressions which also capture the weathering paint/ chalk when applied.
Looks great Phil...will be watching this one with interest.
Craig.

Hi John/Craig,
Your right Craig, I have now removed the tape only after the whole model had been rubbed down with 1000 wet'n'dry. This has now given me a nice line definition for the weathering. The next job will be adding some rivets, I will only be adding about 10k on this model not to many, I added 25k on Ali's Futura and 35k on my hunter so not to many this time. These will be burnt into the paint using a soldering iron and a small piece of copper tube compressed onto the end.
I will add some pictures later of the model before, during and after the riveting.

hope your nose gear fits throught the stock opening after all that rivet work around the perimeter..... I've built 2 and had to reprofile the opening on both...

Yep, got the rivet & panel line detail - nice.
