Here are a few pics showing the paint scheme and ground stance of my Rookie with the lengthened struts. I have not clear coated the model yet. I'm also going to have the leading edges of the wings and stabs covered with chrome.

Default RE: Composite-Arf rookie questions

Vincent, Thanks for the advice, sounds easy to me!!

Woketman & Terry, Thank you both, after seing the number it poped back into the brain of mine! That is definately correct!

Kevin, The colors are beautiful!!! You can really tell a big difference in the stance too. The plane looks awesome!

Question, I'm on the way to the Hobby shop to get servos. I will be using all four elevons on the wings, speed brake, rudders, throttle servo.... wait think turbine... NO THROTTLE SERVO!!! Can you guys recommend servos for me to get. (reasonably priced)

Thank you all, Kenny

The Hitec HS-5945MGs are super strong digitals at a great price. That's what I'd put on the elevons.

Ditto on Woketman's servo suggestion. I used 8411's 'cause that's what I had in my stash. I think that the Hitecs don't have nearly as much slop in the gear train either as compared to a JR 8411.

As promised, here are few pictures with comments that show the smoke system installation in my rooki (I had to uninstall the turbine to take the pictures).

The smoke pump is programmed to be switched on/off using the snap-roll button on my JR 10 SXII radio.

Smoke tank is a Dubro 24 oz. tank

Pump is powered by a 5-cell 2400 battery pack

Can you guys post some pictures of the inside of the fuse under the canopy. I would like to see how you are organizing it. How much weight did you have to add to the nose for CG?

Fuel tanks are my only other question, where to get them, how big, and where in the plane do they go?

Servos

I am useing one 5945 in each wing the elevons joined together. I just don see any reason to use 4 servos in the wing of this plane. There is no diff. in flying that I have seen. I think the vector pipe takes some of the load off these servos. I can trim the plane with my vector pipe. I put it on a wheel on the tx. I can acually fly useing this for pitch control.

Someone aske how much thrust my 2300 made. 25.5 pounds

I am with thunderjet, one servo on each side. Hitec 5945`s or JR 8411`s would be a good choice. Make sure the servo box brackets and linkages are all done correctly and you are good to go.

thunderjet, with 25.5 lbs of thrust did you turn your turbine down, or let it all ride? I'm asking because I will be putting a new P-120 on mine.

KFalcon,

Funny you should ask about pics of the radio tray. I took some last night to post today. I routed out some of the tray for the UAT and I'm using a digital volt meter from i4c products. The air guages are from Ashcroft but I like the ones from Festo better. My installation is for an AMT engine so your tray will be different when using another brand of turbine. The only thing I have left to do is to find a spot for the brake valve. I use velcro to hold down some of the items. Anyway---The pics show the rest...

Wow is all I have to say about that! Where did you get the digital volt meter, air gauges, and what kind of air fitting are those?

You mentioned your fuel tank, where can i get one and how much fuel will it hold?

This post is so long I thought it was Kevin that bought the Gary Mueller tank when it actually was Matt. So Matt, got some info on the tank?

Kevin, what are you using for a fuel tank in yours?

Everyone else, same question what tank and why?

KFalcon,

I'm using a 2 liter Coke bottle with BVM metal fittings for my fuel tank. The guages and filling valves can be purchased from McMaster/Carr. The ones I have are brass and kinda heavy compared to an aluminum valve that you can get from Robart. They really only add about an extra ounce which this plane will not even feel. The digital volt meter is from i4c Products in Tulsa OK. I don't have an E-mail addy or phone # handy now... You could do a Google search for "i4c Products. What's cool about this volt meter is that it will measure the voltage under load. All you have to do is to move your elevon and rudder sticks on your TX while the RX is on and the volt meter will tell you the voltage under the load of these servos moving.

I got my fuel cell from Tam. I think it is about 96 oz, so a total of 100 oz with the UAT. It's about 4" round, and about 12"-13" long. Can't beat the price either.

To add to my previous post...I'm using the Coke bottle on my plane for two reasons.
#1---Very inexpensive!!!
#2---My AMT Mercury is pretty fuel efficient and the 2 liters will easily give me eight minute flights with throttle management. Six minutes easy if I turn and burn.

If you are going to use a JetCat P-120 then I suggest that you go with the larger kevlar tank like the one Matt is using. This will enable you to get more than just five minutes of flight time as you would safely get with a two liter Coke bottle.

I was going to ask how long the flight times are but... you would just remind me that you haven't flown it yet. Bvm has a metal cap that is made for a coke bottle?! Cool.
Where does the coke bottle fit, directly in front of the turbine?

The volt meter is awesome and a must have in my opinion. Load testers are just one more thing to remember, and to lug around!

Robart makes light air gauges huh? I better get to ordering.

Do you have pictures of the tank install?

see http://www.i4cproducts.com/c-volt.htm for the volt meter.

Like Kevin, I use a 2-liter coke bottle, a 24 oz Dubro tank, and BVM hopper tank. I have a P-120 in my Rookie and I fly it for 6-7 minutes with enough fuel left for 3-4 go-around.

KFalcon,

BV wouldn't be caught dead with a Coke bottle in one of his planes!!![8D] If it ain't Kevlar...it ain't nothin'!!

This is just one of his metal tank fittings accessories that I adapted to use with the Coke bottle. Just cut out a hole in the Coke bottle cap so that the stopper is pretty snug and the install the stopper assembly as you would with any other tank. After screwing down the Coke bottle cap as tightly as I could, I then put a heavy coat of Goop on the exterior of the bottle all around the area where the cap and bottle meet to prevent a possible leak. (Which I've never had using this method)
