I have a lot of seams to sand down, fill and sand down again....[:'(] This has to be the least desirable part of the build. I have noticed Y/A no longer cuts out the main gear door openings. I'm not sure why.
Does anyone out there think that the JR8711 is not enough servo for the elevators with a P200 on board?

Hi,
I'm told it helps them hold their shape while sitting for months or years waiting to be sold...

8711s are plenty for the stabs but I like the larger gear train of the red multiplex jumbos.
Hahaha Shaun good one re:the gear doors and true lol.

I thought they would be enough but I worry about it being a fully flying stab.
So I got more stuff done this afternoon. I built all four stab bearing boxes and added the doublers to the formers.

Hi,
I've got one on a truck headed this way. Gotta go sweep the dust out of my shop and get crankin' on catching up to you guys. I think Tom Perry might grab one, too!

You guys might want to take a look at the NL Olympus HP turbine I just put up for sale: http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=887784
This bad boy is just what you need to properly power one of those big Hornets!

Joe,
I might have already mentioned this, but you know about sanding off a bit of the aft tail bulkhead on the right side lest the starboard tail-cone go oval, right?

Yep, I remember .
But let me ask you this.... Are you taking from the top right corner, bottom right or both? About how much do yo think need removed?

Hi,
I don't remember, but after I assembled the two bulkheads to the bearing boxes (outside of the fuselage), I slid the assembly into the rear and inserted the brass tube through and checked the cones. You can see where the bulkhead is pushing on the fuse and sand there. It didn't take much at all.

I got the elevator bearing boxes done and mounted. They turned out real nice. Even though they have interlocking tabs, I still went the extra step and fiberglassed the outer seams.
Edit: sorry, I already posted that.... too far back!

The manual has you put a straight bar through the fuse to align the two elevator boxes. This is nearly a full proof way to do it.
The second picture shows the fuse in a relaxed state..... no formers in yet. You can see the tail cones are slightly out of round there. It gets even worse when you put the formers in for the elevators. I had to trim the formers and multiple areas and use small stick to brace the tailcones into shape until the hysol dried.
The linkage I am using is from McMaster. It is a 6/32 all metal ball link. Since it is near the pipe, I don't want a nylon ball link getting soft on me.

The elevator blocks got glued in and I have the ends capped. This set up is rock solid. There is carbon fiber under the sheeting the sandwiches the block.
Its nice to see a razor sharp edge on a control surface. It reminds me of the BV F100.... very scale shape.
All the elevators have to be labeled. They are all unique. The left and righ side of the fuse is slightly asymetric and the fit and finish is adjusted to each side.

I am finishing up the formers for the rudders. The clamping system is nice. I see only one thing I may add. There is a small gap from the top of the top clamp to the exit of the fuse. The fuse actual has a built in step that is the base of the rudder. This means the carbon rod goes unsupported for aprox 3/4 of an inch. I may build in support within that step on the fuse. This would bridge that gap.

Here is a comparison between the original pipe that Y/A used to sell and the Tam pipe. The Tam pipe has the bell mouth on it.
The Y/A feels like it is a slightly lighter gage and slightly smaller in diameter around the inlet. It will have a Beotec 180 with 43lbs of thrust. I hope the pipe is rated for that......does anyone know?

I found a set of front tires that work really well as a replacement for the foam. Dreamworks sells them for around 10 buck for a set. You need to cut out the center lip but leave about an 1/8th inch remain. If the tire was a 1/16th of an inch wider, it would be perfect. Overall, its a better option than the foam and for a cheap price.

Ok, time to dust off this old thread. After a new home construction and move, I am ready to finish the three bugs by March.... hopefully.
I need some incentive and harassment to keep me on task.I got everything sorted again... everything in triplicates.

The nose is mounted but needs to have some finishing to tighten up the seams at the joint. I fill the cone tip about 3/4in with resin and lots of microballoons so I could counter sink the bolt.
