RE: Fei Bao Euro Fighter EF-2000 build thread *Lots of Pics!*

Started working on the new nose door. Ordering one is 5 weeks out so going to make one.

I first separated the old nose door into two pieces.
Then Traced onto a thin piece of ply. 3/16" I believe for the outside finish and checked fit.
Then traced the inner piece onto the same ply with Hinge cutouts. I glued it all together first and cut the hinge cutouts afterwards.

The fuse at the nose gear door has a slight bend from front to back because of the gear mount former in that spot. The piece of ply that I picked had a slight bend to it so it fit perfect[8D]

RE: Fei Bao Euro Fighter EF-2000 build thread *Lots of Pics!*

I applied two layers of Medium weight glass cloth to the outside first. One layer was laid at a 45deg to the other layer. I used finishing resin to create this. After 5 hours I could handle the part and trim the excess glass from the outside.
I then worked on the backside and applied 1 layer. This was a bit more difficult as there was the edge details to deal with and also the Hinge cutouts. I installed it and used an xacto knife to cut around those details while everything was still wet.

The second picture is from this morning while Trimming the excess.

The outcome. I am happy with the results. The door is slightly heavier than the stock one but it is insanely stiff!

Sanded the nose door. Will start priming to smooth it out.
Got the nose door mounted. The plastic hinges from FB have a remove able screw to allow for easy door removal once mounted.
Hinging was quick and easy. Again I used CA up front. I'm still undecided if I will use nuts and bolts for the nose hinges.

Recieved my order from Altecare yesterday which had my Hysol I needed. So the remaining areas on the formers were done last night.

Next I had to complete the cut outs for the gear where it passes into the fuse.
I mounted the wing on one side, marked the cutout line from the wing. Removed the wing and used a dremel to cut out area. Then sanded edges and corners.

Here is an overview shot of both doors open.
I mounted gear to check how far the fuse door needs to be open to allow gear to pass by.

Final shot of gear retracted and doors closed.

The gear side door required a bit of sanding where it met the new fuse. Non issue. Took ten seconds with a dremel.

Decided last night to glass the inside of the front gear cover.

This morning I trimmed the excess off and did the cutouts for the door hinges.

    Ready for primer.

Door primed. I primed and sanded it three times to get it smooth.

Primed the nose cover inside and out.

Removed the gear door cylinder from the previous fuse and got it ready for install.

In the next set of pics you will see that I did a lot of epoxy ing today.

Gluing the main gear covers on. Went well even though they were pretty rough from being removed from the damaged fuse.

Mounted the front steering servo mount.

Installed the servo. Marked the servo shaft point so I could line up the servo horn so it's equal between the nose cover.

RE: Fei Bao Euro Fighter EF-2000 build thread *Lots of Pics!*

Next thing I did was sand down the former that sits under the turbine.
When mounted the turbine was within 1-2mm of the former. I should have done this before mounting the gear covers.
I marked it with a sharpie marker to give some refrence while sanding.
I didn't take an after shot but with about 1/4" removed I am happy with the gap.
It was easy to view from the back of the fuse with turbine in place.

Second thing was to replace one of the gear doors that hinge with the gear. The hinges were damaged by the previous pilot and the door was in rough shape.
Hinging was fairly straight forward as I had the previous locations to use. Used 2 Dubro 1/4" scale hinges.
Also had to insert a new ball joint mount on the door. I used a standard plastic off set hinge. Cut it. Cut a spot out of the door. Hysol in place. Used the existing door for position.

Next I made a support for the rear of the rear tray. (Sounds funny. Lol)
    Pretty straight forward.

I am undecided at this point if I should glue it in position or use fasteners.

    Cheers!

Next I worked in mounting the main panel to house air controller/display, air fill valves, fuel fill and fuel shut off valve.

I lined it up and traced lower section onto fuse. Panel was backwards as to sit flush against fuse.
The panel will sit behind the face of the mounting point.

Final pic shows panel in place on wrong side. I couldn't mount it on the inside as paint still wet.

Took the day off from work yesterday to work on the jet!

Got lots done. Worked on front fuel tank mount. Made a plate that attaches to 2 L brackets fastened with the same fasteners that I used for the engine rails.

Hysol 2 strips of ply onto the bottom of the tank.
