Best Jet Modeller/Builder of the Year 2012?
Hey All,
2012 is almost over (I know...scary).
Each year, some of the best jet modellers in the industry make/assemble/build/scratch build ARFs, KITS, frankly whatever the heck they feel like into works of art that we are all envious of and they post their work on public forums This is NOT the thread to bash ARF builders vs. Kit builders vs. Scratch Builders, this is a thread to compliment and worship those builders willing to be visible and share their secrets online, and to learn from them.
So who are they? Who are some of the best JET Builders/Assemblers/Painters you know from THIS year (2012) that finished planes and flew them and you wish the jet was yours? Who do you nominate for best builder whose thread is available for us to read and learn from? (And YES, it can be an ARF that was turned into a Demi-God ARF, or a scratchbuild that was finally finished, or whatever....)
Post their names, their threads, their builds here so we can all give them their dues, and so we CAN LEARN FROM THEIR EXPERIENCE!
I nominate Greg Wright. The dude is a machine. Builds BVM kits like they are 3 day projects, paints, and flies them in what feels like a couple of months. Simply amazing...here are some of his recent exploits just this year...

Who else has a nomination?

Henry finished Brian Omeara's F84. The world has not seen it yet, but when they do they will be blown away. It is a work of art.

HVN Models. World class all the way.

Lotta beautiful products, but I am sort of hoping to hear about people that are more in public forum threads, not just private builders who are on the down-low. Certainly a world class talent though, I agree.

Jeff I hear a lot of good things about Henry Nguyen, but no build threads, no painting techniques for us to enjoy or learn from (that I am aware of at least).

Chris Reiter - Stratotanker - gets my vote.
Not only a talented builder but excellent CAD designer on top of a very demanding full time job in the military (he's on deployment right now).
Here's a recent thread he posted:

I have seen his work up close on a F84 and it was outstanding.

So now you've got to be active on public forums to be considered a good builder? That's funny!

The point of this thread is NOT ever to bash a builder/modeller nor is the purpose to rank him/her if their methods/painting styles/hints and tips are discreet and private and unavailable to the rest of us online.
Since I started the thread, I can calmly and peacefully say that the point of the thread is to identify and praise and focus on builders whose works are readily available online so we can learn from them, have a thread where THEIR build threads are posted, etc.
Nobody is saying that one's amazing building and techniques need to be on a public forum in order for them to be a great modeler, but I would hope that the purpose of this thread is clear enough so that people who post understand that one DOES need to have their amazing build and paint techniques on a public forum in order to be recognized meaningfully HERE on THIS thread. Lets pick up a pointer or two instead of picking a fight or two.
Thanks for being a gentleman, who do you think is a great builder with their work available online?

Wayne is an amazing builder/crew chief. He is currently "employed" on a regular basis from one of the heavy hitters that travels the U.S. events. Dont want to say any names. Wayne has built everything from scratchbuilt designs to kits to amazing installs on ARF birds. Assembling ARF's is not building-kits and plans are builds. I have been building plan designs/scratch building with Wayne since 2001 and many on here can attest to his amazing attention to detail and work ethic. MANY people on here have used his abilities to take very-wrecked birds from the "scrapyard" to the sky.
Wayne (P38J) may have some stuff online but most of his time is spent building full-time for clients so word of mouth. Just my $.02.

How About B1-Bob!!! Who else can scrape up a one of its kind 1/6 Scale F-105 Thunderchief and have two of them successfully fly. Plus he has the most entertaining youtube videos out there. And plus, everything he knows he shares!!

I do admit that B-1 Bob does amazing work. Anybody have any qualified Kit or ARF builders they would recommend the threads of?
Some of the "ARF's" in the market are so poor that they need to be fully re-engineered. I would love to find more threads on people who have taken trashy ARFs and fortified them into plausibly reasonable jets. While not needing as much talent as a Kit or Scratch build, it is it's own kind of genius and frankly more in line with what many of us (especially me ) are able to handle time and skill-wise in today's busy lifestyle so it would be more in line with the kind of thing I -and many of my friends- could benefit from.
Admittedly, watching some of B-1 Bob's videos has taught me a lot. It is so generous when people share their hard earned knowledge on this way cool stuff!

I have to admit it's nice to see the pro builders work to pick up on build techniques. I like to see everyone's build threads to get good ideas.
Lots of great builders out there. I think the reason why we don't see the pro builders doing (Build Threads) is that they are building competition aircraft for their customers and don't want to show them off till the event like Top Gun, World jet masters and other hi profile events.
It sure would be great to see though.
