RE: FEJ Large Hawk
Hi to answer your question on the undercaridge, having had three fej Hawks i have never had a problem with under carridge and i have had some hard landings ,it is a good idea to check the tyre pressures now and again, brakes work well with a touch of grease on them but do wear out quickly but i have always had quick replacements sent regards Keith
Also i have never had one that was over 20kgs dry,one was 18kgs but i built it with a light install, the other two around 19kgs.

Does anyone know if FEJ is uping the quality on their existing kits or is this a trend for their new kits?

I have the new honeycomb F-14 and it's a big improvement over the older FEJ planes I've seen. I will buy another FEJ plane... the problem is deciding on which one! Lowell and James are also great to deal with.

Thanks Dantley. We try!! It's easy working with a good company that listens when there is an issue and does something about it.
Fender, good move!! Thanks

Hi Ali ... Thanks for the reply. The reason I am buying an ARF is because both Graeme and I are so busy. I can tell you that we are putting a new facility in one of my locations so he can prep your TOP GUN entry.I have been looking for an Arf for a long time because it takes me forever to put a kit together however I have never been happy with any ARF. I hope this one will be ok.
I did call James already. PS I bought the BVM F4 instead of the Skymaster and bought the Skygate L39 .. definitely nothing quick and dirty !!!!
Thank you
Peter Woo

Ali... glad to see you get your hands on one of the "new" FEJ jets.
I have been flying my FEJ 1/4.5 hawk for close to a year now. It was one of the early honeycomb kits in the US.
I have 44 flights on it with no issues... By the way, this is my first jet... and really like it. Many people in this thread have seen mine fly at several events on the east coast this year. I'm running a Jet Central rhino, and it has a great presence in the air.
It's funny how short your build thread is; mine wasn't much longer! Here's mine: [link=http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70661]Matt's FEJ Hawk[/link] I can't get the link to work.. apparently RCU is blocking my FG links
My only complaints about the plane, looks like they have changed on yours... and that was the thick antenna's.
James; when you're ready to do the 1/3.5 hawk... please let me know... I've throughly enjoyed mine. Also, is it possible to retro fit the new thinner antenna's on my hawk?
Here's short video James took of my hawk at the summer afterburner

RE: FEJ Large Hawk
Hi Matt,
It was seeing your hawk and picking your brain that I decided on the spot to order mine.
The wait is a killer though. But I know it will be worth it...

RE: FEJ Large Hawk
Despite the awful weather here in the Uk at the moment, I have managed to get more flights in with my hawk this past week. 5 at the recent classic jets event and another 4 today at a local meeting.
Not a single adjustment, tweek or wrenching needed thus far. Maybe its just me, but I find that quite impressive for a scale, relatively complex jet as this? Air and fuel system is still working perfectly. Gear door fit is spot on. Nothing negative to report thus far.
I did note after 5 flights, how much charge each of the packs took. The Kinh tech 180 ECU pack took 1850 Mah. The two RX packs took 800 Mah each. The one that really surprised me was the little light Lipo. I had all of the lights on for the entire 5 flights and taxi out and back in. On a couple of the taxi backs I left the lights on in the Pitts to show them off for a while. Despite all of this the light 3 cell 1300 mah lipo only took 410 Mah to fully charge [X(]
Here are are few shots taken by Neil Hutchinson at our local event today.

RE: FEJ Large Hawk
Oh. I forgot to mention.. I also fitted a smoke system and weighed the hawk.
The ready to fly weight was alarmingly close to 20 kg for my liking ( 44 lbs ) but I forgot that the front tank was half full ( This is how I tend to land after my 8 min timer goes off ) Once this was drained I had a total weight of 19.3 Kg.
The Smoke system is a powerbox smoke pump, pumping the power box fluid through a special dreamworks injector. Without a doubt the thickest smoke producing system that I have ever had! FEJ supplied the tank which fits above the intakes perfectly, and with the smoke pump set to 60% ATV I get a solid 2 mins of burn !
