Hello gents,

My hawk has about 40 flights now, an each day I fly it I just like it more and more...
I don't know if I already told this, but the guy who was painting my plane did not have the time to do it soon and with event season starting here I decided to use vinyl plotter on it, I contacted a sport dedicated disign company here in Chile and with the disign a friend of mine did, we worked it out, it worked really well they only took about 4 hours to install and the quality of the job is supperb, the vinyl they use is also used on race cars, helmets etc, we only added about 250 grams, about the same that a paint job will add, hope you guys like how it looks, I sure do.... they say it can last about 6 years, but I just want my Red arrows sheme sooner than that, I hope....
I wrote about the braking issue a couple weeks back, well, my braking did not get better with the time, so I contacted Erwin from Airtech last night explainig him my problem, his reply was that O-Ring brakes dont work well with proportional brake valves, I'm usisng the JetTronics that comes with the LG Set, so I will have to change it to just On Off bracking as he suggested, in case someone else is using the same there is the answer to the braking problems.... Will try that next weekend....

Hey that looks cool. I like it. you can see it good.
I like the BVM proportional the best but I using the up3 this time because I had one a new in the box laying around for another jet.

I had a lot of issues with brakes on my first one till I figured out the air was leaking at the wheels. You can test it by hooking directly to the wheel. What I found was to make sure the backing plate (the part with the Oring) is seated all the way in to the rim. It appears to be slightly beveled. I had to use a spacer on the hubcap side to up the axle bolt slack out of it. I guess you could shorten the bolt or thread the gear all the way thru to prevent the bolt from bottoming out.

If you find you have to do that you will notice the hub cab will not seat without rubbing the head of the axle bolt. The easy fix for that is put a Oring where the hubcap screws in so it will stop before touching the bolt. The Oring will keep the hub cap from backing off. Ask me how I know

Mine has good braking now. I know I on my first one I could lock them using the BVM. It did seem to get better over time because the Orings will flatten out from use and make better contact.

Hi guys
i could do with some help pointers it's doing my nut in, OK question, I'm doing the detail4scale opening canopy thing is I've got it working but on hinge side I've got a good 1/8 gap back to front if I close the gap it won't open is this right? And if that's not enough it needs a rake of filler to shape it up, but at end of the day if I want working canopy the gaps here to stay, looks s--t so advice from anybody that's done this job thankyou in advance
Regards wayne

Default Feels like a old friend

Guys I am happy to report my hawk #2 burned over 10 gallons of kero this past weekend at the new jet meet in SC (Flyingtigers RC club).

Want to thank Ray Labonte of Comp-Arf for helping me out with the canopy.

She flies exactly the same as the first one. I only have a K180 in it becuase the 210 burned up in the first one. It still GPS at 190mph in a shallow dive and 165mph level flight and I am really amazed at how well it does slow fight even thought it came up 1lb nose heavy. I guess I got the restriction right with my first guess

I have right 48 degress of full flap with no issues and it lands great. I also have not installed a Gyro yet.

Looking forward to another 150 plus flights on this one.

Hi Jeff

For sure this is good news. Especially for me as I am working on the second one. Could you please post a picture of the inlets with the restrictors.

Thanks

I only have this one but you can see it appears to be reduced ruffly 30 to 35%

I will post some more the next I get it out side in the sunlight.

I tried to mirror the intake shape in the openning. What you see it epoxy board and the glue spread around to seal the edges and hold it in place.

Hi Guys, I am trying to do the linkage for the little gear door. Unfortunately it looks like that the door and cut out are shifted from where they were on the first one so as much as I am trying, the linkages don't work. I even gave up on the gear covers and took them off although I had spent a bunch of time on them and they looked good. Has anyone tried a different method of doing the linkage? I even considered installing a couple of cylinders to make it work with air but the geometry and the location does not allow that.

Thanks
Behzad

Here are a couple of pictures. On the first one that I built, the gear sat in center of the cut out for little gear door and after doing the linkage, there was ample room for the section of the gear door that gets attached to the strut. But on this one and in one wing, the gear mount is off center a little. Also the linkage that opens and closes the little door properly makes the little door sit against the strut when the gear is down. So there would be no way for the section that gets attached to the strut to be there or work. I have tried to understand why it is not working and why I can't seem to be getting a length for the linkage that would make if work properly.

Bezhard,

I had to mount to the cover also. I couldn't get it to work on the black part of the retract.

Mine is like yougguy's.

I just got back from another fly in. I am up to 25+ flights on the new one.

Thanks guys. Now I am toasted. I just ripped the covers off as they were hitting every where But I am sure I can make a nice mount for it and run it from the strut. Similar location as yours. or, buy a new set of covers!

Hi Levi

yours look awesome. I have a hard time getting in to the second one. Did you take some from the joint section of your strut covers off? They look like they are fitting much tighter.

Hi Behzad,

I only took the parts and had them sanded on a piece of sand paper laid on a flat surface to create an even gluing surface when joined together the two halves, second before gluing them on the strut I matched them together and inspected them from above to ensure the total shape was round even and cylindrical circumferrence...

Hi Lavi

Thanks. Mike was kind enough to give me his set as he was not going to use them. So I might do them again,
