Oh believe you me. I got my radar up!!! I am worried that if ordered them that they would even show up!?? I will have to wait and hear what Pat gets from FEJ.
Hoping for the best!

Robzylla,

i have the D&L conversion on my A10 gear. It's worked flawlessly and I would recommend it, but the skymaster retract side frames are as a mate put it "cheap Chinese monkey metal"

ive just purchased a set of electrons as I had a actuator on the mains struggle, probably due to the warped Retract side frame. The side frame cracks at the right angle mounting frame.

ive D&L in my bandit and my yet to be built EF2000, I like them, I do see a slight flaw in the sense that the wormscrew isn't supported at the end, and I think that's why my actuator failed, so if my A10 went in tomorrow and I built a new one, I'd definitely buy electrons.

(if the model was a Bvm or had quality pneumatics like behotecs, I'd be tempted with the D&L, but only if I couldn't use electrons...e.g. If the retract was a special shape and another wouldn't fit)

I am narrowing it down.
Removing my stock gear from the order. Going with Electron E40 and already have the BVM wheel/rim/brake upgrade and E brake for pneumatic servo actuated brake operation in hand. So just need to find nose wheel tire/rim. Awaiting a reply from FEJ about purchasing just struts.
Get components in hand and see how or what to make it all work!
I think Electron is way to go! Would just need to wait to order them since they offer different dia. connection pins options.
Thanks for the reply's and great info guys!

Hey birseed2 just to confirm, you are using stock skymaster struts and wheels with your electron Ev40?

Pat did FEJ give you an ETA on gear? Seems they are not to excited about selling me just struts! Want to sell me full gear set $950!

Rob,
They said 7-10 days to manufacture the set. In answer to your first question, I contacted FEJ via Facebook Messenger. They answered right away that they didn't have time to build a set of gear for me, but to check back in a few weeks. I waited 3 weeks and they took the order. I had them send me a PayPal invoice so that I would have some level of protection in case I didn't get what I paid for. Fingers crossed. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Robzylla,
Honestly, my electrons are still in the box, but I am using the skymaster nose strut and that's been fine.
The main struts themselves are fine, but I'm not currently using them as the block and main wheel axle was one part and aluminium! It lasted about a flight before I bent the axle. I meant to make a new one on the lathe but never got around to it.
im using another brands smaller A10 strut but afraid I can't remember the name! That's about to be binned and I'm about to use a strut from a mates crashed jet legend model (we think it was a F20)

Ok thanks guys. I will wait and see how Pat's FEJ gear fit/function. Pat will you be using SM front strut since already there? And are you staying pneumatic?

I'm planning to install the entire gear set, Rob. Depends on how much needs to be done to make them fit. Also planning to keep them on air for now. Can always convert to electric later. If all goes well, I'll have a complete stock SM set for sale - retracts, struts, wheels & brakes. The guy who sold me the jet helped pay to replace the missing mains, which I now have.

Great! I will be anxiously awaiting to see how it works for you. I still have a few months at least before my new one arrives. When do you anticipate your gear from FEJ?

The $60,000 question. I was told 7-10 business days. I'll post the news right here when I get the package.
i ordered the stock gear from SM a few weeks ago and received it 4 days after I sent the funds. Shocked? Yup. Sometimes you get lucky...

I guess they REALLY want me to buy a full set! Seems pretty steep for just 3 struts! and $105 to ship 1/7 scale gear to CA?
I will wait and see what you get Pat.

Received the gear yesterday. I just opened the box and they are a work of art. On the mains, the strut brace is included as well as the mounts for the two gear doors. Adding main gear doors will be easy. Once I've painted them and built the gear doors, they'll look like this:

Remember to fully expect them not to work in flight.

If there were a way to make the struts fit into other retracts, it would reduce your stress level.

Trying a 2 wheel landing on an A-10, especially no nose gear or grass would make repairs likely.

I have received some requests for my setup, so here goes:

My setup - SM /Xtreme Jets A-10 1/7.75 (turbine version):

JetCentral Bee80 SE’s – 18lbs thrust each

Hitec 7955 for all wing servos, Futaba BLS173 on elevators, Hitec 7245 on rudders and nose steering
Unilight lighting
Powerbox SRS Gyro and Powerbox single channel gyro on nose steering

2 – 2cell A123 receiver batteries in nose, 2 – 3cell A123 ECU batteries in nose, 1 – 2cell A123 lighting battery in nose
CG at 110mm with 1.5 pounds lead shot in nose to balance
Dry weight – 37 pounds 6 oz - digital scales
Fueled weight – 44 pounds estimated based on 122 oz of fuel

Control throws:
Aileron = 1” up, .75” down at root
Elevator = 1” up, .75” down at root (see picture for neutral position)
Rudder = .625” either direction at base
Flaps = 1.5” landing full flaps

Last flown at KY Jets 2017 – flies great not heavy as you would expect - plenty of power – no pitch on extending flaps slowly in TX – feed in elevator during takeoff roll to shorten roll.

Thanks

Nick

Hey Pat those struts look NICE! I am awaiting my Dreamworks Genesis 40 elec retracts. I will need to do some research on fitment and will be calling on you for a few measurements if you don't mind?
SM offered $150 off my kit if I wanted to order less retracts/struts/tires, air kit and pipes! I was floored! I guess we now know what these things cost to produce!
Glad you got your gear!

Rob,
Sounds like you're better off ordering your jet with the gear, then selling it here or on RCU. Guaranteed you'll get more than $150 for the full set.
I will probably get some Electron retracts for this FEJ gear set. I can free up lots of space in the fuselage by going electric on the gear. Feel free to ask for measurements - patniven@bellsouth.net

Nick, thank you for all your info.

It's going to help a ton of us.

I'm at month 4 waiting. Likely, I'll go with the king tech 80's. Oops, I mean the K85.
