I recently purchased an A-10 from the original buyer who never built it. In fact, it's never been out of the box. Somehow, the main gear assemblies are missing (retracts, struts, wheels & brakes). The nose gear is installed as advertised. I have a quote from John @ Skymaster for the replacement set, but was wondering if there is a better set available for this jet. Any leads?
If not, could someone measure the length and diameter of the strut (main gear) for me? Best measurement would be from the base of the strut, where it exits the trunion to the axle centerline. From the photos, they appear to be standard AirPower retracts with 1/2 inch struts, but I'd like to make sure of the length.

Mine is still flying well, Electrons is the only way to go imo. The mod to allow you to use them is simple and only requires the addition of an Aluminium box section cut to form rails. I planned to do this from the beginning so I ordered my kit less retracts but with struts included.
If you prefer more lively Ailerons you will need to increase throws from standard and go with longer Servo horns to help clear the servo bay covers at max throw. The original 8kg Aileron servos I chose were not really up to the new task of higher throws so 2 x 18kg servos now installed.

Those modifications look great Phil. Electron do make some great gear. The gear defiantly look more scale like when getting lowered or retracted using electric or hydraulic. I am kicking my self I didn't go electric on the A-10 however I still mite go that way later on.

Sorry about the mess in the photo. I have a few projects going on in my shed and running out of room.
A fellow member at my local club had a set up similar to mine at my jet club and I copied his set up.
I basically used an old door, and two hydraulic fittings which he kindly gave me. These fitting are clamps which are used to hold hydraulic pipes like the ones on excavators. I use the wing tube through the plane as normal, and clamp this to the hydraulic clamp. I then use support on the front, and back of the plane to keep it at a height of the door, to clear the scale parts that hang down of the plane. In doing this you will have safe transport of the plane. Just make sure to adjust the door so you can lower the gear down once you put the wings on. The plane can be left on your set up rite up until it's got the wings on, and gear lowered.
My plane is obviously not finished yet that's why the elevator, and rudders aren't on yet. However you can easily leave these off and connect them at the field if needed. I hope you understand my explanation as I'm not that good at explaining things. Hopefully the photo does more talking for me. Hope this helps you, and anyone else who wants to use it. Big thanks to Bart for his idea and design.

Okay guys, throwing this out to the thread. As I said above, I am awaiting another A10. Looking to convert gear over to elec this time. Have purchased BVM wheel/tire/brake upgrade and BVM E brake. Only pneumatic operation will be brakes via servo actuated E brake.
Also looking very closely at above FEJ struts. Awaiting a response to purchasing just struts.
Question to the group is- has anyone done a Down and Locked conversion? I see that Electron EV40 has been done. Any needed mods other than axle milling? Was stock wheels/brakes used?
The $800 price tag on D&L conversion is steep!
Thoughts? Recommendations?

For the Electron setup, Just the Aluminium Box section for the Mains Bearers...about 10mins easy work and as mentioned earlier If using Electron Wheels and Brakes, machining of the axles is required, another 10mins machining work each side. Of course it does help if you have a lathe.
