Default DX18 and telemetry with jetcat....?

just downloaded the new DX18 airware, which says it now supports jetcat data with the telemetry

i would love to install the TM1000 in a new build, if i can access the jetcat data along with rx data and batt voltage.

dont see a jetcat cable on the web site.... ??

Kirk,

Chris Huhn was using it on his Ultra Bandit at Winamac, I'm pretty sure his was still a developmental version since he is one of the Spektrum managers at Horizon. You might give him a call.

Kirk,

I was just out flying with Chris Huhn yesterday and i believe that you will start seeing the Jet Cat telemetry stuff start to show up in the HH OR Spectrum web sites soon. As they just did the recent up date for the DX18 radio as of yesterday. Like DavidR has said i'm sure they wanted to make sure everything worked perfectly in the development stages before they released any product. Chris also said that with this recent up date you should be seeing much better Counts on your data logger after a flight which we did see on chris's ultra bandit yesterday after he did a flight with the update installed in his radio.

I have been using it for about 2 months, it works great. Horizon is always on the cutting edge.

When operational, the JetCat sensor will measure:
throttle position,
pack voltage,
pump voltage,
EGT,
RPM, and
OFF condition.

Can you set alarms against each parameter to alert you of some sort of issue?

It's worth it just for the rpm's. Nice to know that engine is running when you can't hear it.

I picked one of these beauties up the other week...

Very small and very light

This is what comes in the packet

I found it worked well connecting to both my DX18 and iPad w STi

Anyone else using the JetCat sensor and how do you find it?

The most important thing I think is fuel usage but it doesnt seem to do that. Nice none the less

Quandry - No problem to have the sti and ipad connected to the same telemetry tx as the dx18?

Can two sensors be adapted for twin engine applications?

Yes that would be a very nice addition, however to be able to see the running condition while flying and be able to alert on unusual conditions is also pretty useful, maybe with some time and effort it would be possible to create an alert about a flame out condition, possibly based on RPM or EGT? Note also that the STi app allows for data logging, so it is possible then to correlate flight data against GPS data - adding in the G sensors would also create some interesting stats to look at.

Yes it's no problem at all, the bind procedure is to connect the STi to the ipad and start the app, power on the RX (while holding down the bind button on the TM1000), then click the bind button on the iPad app, finally enter bind mode on the TX and it all syncs up. Be wary of binding on carbon or steel reflective surfaces, and if it doesn't work at first then try with the TXheld a little distance away (1 or 2 metres). I've found the process to be very reliable. The only part that is tricky is that the bind button on the TM1000 is recessed and very small, you need a tooth pick to actuate it so sometimes a second pair of hands helps depending on where it's mounted in the model.

I don't know for sure but my gut reaction is no, I didn't notice anything in the config which would allow for engine 1, engine 2 etc however I could be wrong. Would be a very interesting functionality to see in place so even if it's not there now it may be on the way in a future release?

Manual mentions daisy chaining sensors, so it gives the impression that multiple can be used.

You can see in this picture Ihave the GPS sensor daisy chained to the JetCat sensor so I tend to agree with you that daisychain would work, although I'm not sure if the software has the logic enabled for running two of the same sensor and showing seperate sets (two columns) of data?

I was hoping to daisy chain two jetcat sensors, not share one.
