James it would be helpful if you explained in more detail what caused the problems. With the hawk turbine shut down, did you not have a FOD screen ? What problems were cause by flying off the grass ? We all could benefit

Many jets with low intakes would suck in enough grass to make a bird nest in front of the turbine. You could smell burning grass whenn some jets were taking off from ingesting grass clippings.

I make them! $350 plus shipping. Made in USA so they aren't cheap to make! All aluminum, and very light. Break down completely. Adjustable heights.
Having some more made now.

We have a clear canopy in development in the UK which the chaps at the factory will be fitting as an option very soon.

Cockpit tun needs fitting out though with pilot and cockpit detail though, any suggestions where we can get these?

Ian look at Feibao they have loads of nice cockpits for their Jets bound to be one that suits

April would probably be an impossibility. They have a little fly in at Lakeland Linder in April. It's called Sun and Fun. It draws over 30,000 full scale aircraft and 150,000+ over the course of the event week.

That's true and I've seen that also how dried grass form like a bird nest on the FOD screen.

I used leaf blower to clean out grass after flight but I know after takeoff while engine is in full power grass may stay on FOD screen until more external turbulence disrupt out of way. Depending on the amount of restriction but when airflow is not enough specially at max fuel supply engine might overheat that result in ECU over temp shutdown.

Vin, it's true. The Vampire taxied out, turned for take off and rolled about 100' and quit. When we brought it back, the fod was solid grass. No air could get in at all. The same happened on the F16. It was like a giant vacuum. THe grass runway was fine...the clippings needed to be cleaned off.

I know of 1 F-16 that this happened on the first take-off.

Wow that is not good...i am guessing a good size leaf blower mounted on a tractor would work to clear off the loose clippings in between flights.
