Multiplex Funjet dropped from 100,000ft video
It's a fun JET so it must be jet related!

From the RC point of view it was brilliant.
From the FAA point of view Could be a problem.
What do you think?

Hi Stan,
On my initial viewing I really didn't think about it as it didn't seem to have the whole "drone" controversial stigma. I'm really not sure. Hopefully others will chime in. I believe this was done in Sweden as his project page is a .se so the FAA has no say anyway.

That was a great video! It couldn't happen in the over regulated USA by today's standards the Wright Brothers would have to get and wait on the federal governments approval with hearings and environmental studies to not be fined to death !

LOL Epic Fail! Yeah cool video, but it was an engineering disaster and didn't even take winds into account. That just puts us one step closer to losing our right to fly R/C from the "hey look at me!" youtube crowd. Cool video though...

Interesting footage but problems galore...lucky to get it down without incident .
Waiting for the video of a flight like this where the plane comes down in the flight path of a commercial airliner, fpv pilot "looses a wire" on the ground station and there goes the plane into the windshield or gets sucked into an engine !

Very Cool! All this talk about regulations and all .. it's a hobby .. it's just supposed to be fun. You don't see to many lawyers at the field just wanting to have fun flying toys..
A Funjet has about the same mass as a seagull. Airliners face much bigger threats on a second by second basis. On the incredibly remote chance of an encounter, incredibly remote chance, the Airliner would win. They shoot frozen turkeys at airliners in testing for birdstrikes. Surely they could handle a 2lb piece of EPO packing foam.
Cool Video!!

Was great video coverage. Just as worthy as the space jump. Unfortunately, I feel this video and probaby others that follow will be another death nail in the "rule" following hobby. I know most of you think that Im just being paranoid. And probably I am, but with good reason. This video will be used as evidence that RC Hobby Planes are invading flight paths of comercial aircraft. Wonder what would happen if one of these gets sucked into the engine of an airliner at 40k feet! I just have a bad feeling bout this.

I have mixed emotions on this. On one hand how cool is it that technology and enginuity have come so far from my first Futaba AM 4 channel radio to this! But I can see people's point on the outside looking in perspective. But I know that they already put up boatloads of weather monitoring balloons. After the meltdown in Japan I found one in Utah. And as of yet I have not personally heard an outcry against them. My 2c

Personally, I think they are harmless, like was stated earlier, its a piece of foam but, the media will play it up as if its a rocket ready to destroy any thing that touches it lol. So it will be used as propaganda to create histaria especially in this USA [&o]

If the payload is under 4 pounds the FAA is ok with it, I think that they request a notification to the closest center prior to launch. I have a freind who is doing this. He has had one launch where the payload parachuted back down and a second using a Stinger DF as a UAS that came down a bit out of control at times but was recovered. He has a second Stinger version that he has worked out the software bugs on ready to go now, he is just waiting for the winds aloft prediction to swing to where he needs it. On youtube look for NTNS-1 and you can find his videos.
