This shold be interesting, mine should be in any day now. I plan to use either a RAM500 class turbine or a RAM 1000, detuned to 13# or course

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks,

Default Pictures

Here are the first pics very nice kit bad spots are the gear well liners and a couple of the slots for hinges are not so clean also the elevator control horn MUST be replaced for turbine, if your planning on flying it as ducted fan only its fine I have a ideal and will share on this later Ram 500 size motor is all this plane needs anymore is major overkill planes overall size seems fine!

jks,
AFAIK, these are all the same plane, made by Cermark under license from DL. I am getting mine from Andy Low at Electrodynam.com. It should be in any day now.

Default Kit pluses rated on a scale of 1-10

Hatch and canopy,8 latches could be a little bit cleaner.. very nice wing,10 servos both under one hatch for flap and alerion.. instructions,10 color simple &nice pictures.. Formers ,10 nice clean install.. paint ,9.5 very clean some fine scrathing... fit and finish of elevators rudder wings,9 only one elevator was a little hard to plug in, Hardware well this was the only real problem of the kit but a simple fix for a few bucks overall Ill rate it from the box to the work bench a 9.5 ! more ratings to follow....

Default MB339

Is that the same MB339 that had the elevator/stabilizer separate from the airplane and crash at the El Toro Jet Rally a couple weeks ago? I must say that the pilot did a remarkable job of flying it to the ground, keeping it away from the spectators, and keeping it over the dirt. However, after viewing the remains, it appeared the empennage appeared to be under-designed and poorly hinged.

Default Yes it is

Hi yep this is the one the main problem was the guy who built it not the plane Ive learned you cant bust it trust it! the plane crashed with no elevator but survived intact with a broken elevator and some scratches I do know the elevator came off in flight the kit comes with ca hinges even if you use a good pin hinge just take alittle time and drill them and put a screw threw them the old timmers used to dowl hinges in!

Default RAMTEC INSTALL

Ok very simple keeping in mind that after the waiver is in the mail ill be slaping a Ram 500 in it so its very simple glue in the 2 engine mount rails, the kit came with full ducting for fan and turbine, assemble the fan bypass and I will bolt the system in instead of glueing it in so I can eaisly removed it, this will be done tonight Im estmaiting 1.5 hours or less pics in the morning!

Totall time building 30min...

Default Model questions

Hi jettset99:

I have a major questions to ask you about this kit. I was told that there would be two different versions. One turbine and one DF (which will be coming out at some 'later' date). Now, if I understand you correctly, the turbine kit (which appears to be the one you have) is also the Duct-fan one. Is this true?

YES.

Paul,
I add 45 degree brace at the second former to add little strenght.
The elevator need to add to former to support the linkage rod.
On the stab. Connect them together with carbon fiber tube or brass tube to add strenght.
If my wife didn't call me to home for dinner. I might get it done haft way.
I only had few hours a day to work on my own project.
Thirty MB 339 pipes need to be done by tuesday. Otherwise I could get this baby to fly this weeken.

Default Engine In

Ok engine ducting went in with little effort but making it so that the engine mount rails can be removed took a lot of time and 9 bucks of bolts the bypass for the fan went in toghther nicely little trimming glue and finnished, also started on the fuel tanks they have cutouts in the front former for the df11s ill use a 10 oz header also and bvm mixture control. totall time 4hours only becase I didnt glue in the engine rails! ill finnish up engine stuff and start mounting servos and tail next, they dont include any tail push rods Ill call and find out why but ill use some carbon rods with titanuium ends...

Default MB-339

Hi Guys,

I have a kit on the way and was wondering what gear you all are using?? I am still undecided on the powerplant. I do believe a turned down P120 would be fine but dealing with the idle thrust may be a problem. Yves has told me he was shutting down his P-80 on final for smaller runways so overall the small motor may be the way to go.

Default Thrust

Hi Vin,

Not sure what motor your were looking at, but we have seen that the new P-80 idle thust is lower, about .8 to .9 pounds on the stand. It accelrates faster now too.

If you are comparing to the Ram 500, their spec sheet says 1 pound (doesn't sound right??) maybe TonyF knows.

Default mb-339

Hi Matt,

Wilcox told me at Tucson the 120 can idle at 31k which is very close to the idle thrust of the Ram 500. The P-80 Yves was using idled at 35k. I may just go with the de-tuned 120 since I have two of them already. The 120 is also very good on gas and would be no problem getting 74oz onboard the Macchi. Yves said the 500 running at a higher throttle actually used the same gas as the detuned P-80, the 120 is even better on gas in that thrust range. DL supplies a bypass that can utilize both types (500 or kj-66) of motors. The choice is mine when I get the kit.

Default Engine/Gear

Hi after talking to tam we have came to the conclusion the Ram 500 is the way to go you have more room for fuel and the plane is not a high speedster, not saying you can put a p-80 in it if you have a choice you couldnt go wrong either way! as for gear spring air with wire strutts will be a perfect match dont mess with gear doors keep it simple and you will get a every day flyer that will keep you intertained and not wrenching!!!

Default Gear

Paul, you can always use the Top Gun / Top Cat gear like Ken and I set up on our 339's not much heavier, actual strut and looks a lot more scale (not dead on but nice enough)

I use Sping air retracts for 1/2 inch struts, Top Cat struts with BVm Sabre wheels and brakes.
