Default Air tank for brakes only

I have Down & Locked converted retracts, but still need an air tank for brakes. Robart makes an extra small, & Im using a UP-6 valve. Does anyone know if this small tank will be sufficient?

Extra small tank's SPECS: Length: 4.25" (108mm)
Diameter: 1.39" (34mm)

If you've got the room in the jet I would go for the medium size. I dont think its even fair to consider the diff in weight

If you operate off of a grass field, its probably plenty (i've got a fairly small tank in my eurosport). if your flying off a hard paved runway, i'd go the next size up.

I saw that BMV had a conversion system that looked like it didn't need an air tank. It looked like they simply used a large gear door cylinder and connected it to a servo. Assuming that the brakes are a closed system, this seems like it should work pretty well. Very much like pressing the brake pedal in your car.

Got cha Wayne, if I'm understanding you it would require 100% efficiency. The UP6 would probably be the valve to do it

Of all the brake valves I've use the UP-6 is the most thrifty on air usage. I think you will be good even on the small tank.

Thanks, & I agree Steve, but since the Ultra Flash has such a big nose the next size up should slip right in, so since there's no significant weight gain, I'll just get that.
THANKS AGAIN

Have you considered the electric brakes available from GBR Jets?

I didn't think about retroing those to my Down & Locked. I already have the UP-6 & love that valve, & I'm done spending on this one..lol. I'll try them on something though. Have you tried them?

Why don't you use a Jetronics? It works very well and holds the
air excellent. You won't need an extra servo. I'm my opinion.

Nope have not tried them myself, but by all accounts they are very good, must be good to get rid of the air in total, no more diving around inside looking for the leak.

Your full of great info Mike. These things look really cool! I plan on redoing the Ultra Flash with a custom scheme after this flying season, or next, I may try them then. I'll have to research them, see if they are proportional.

ENT, I looked into Jetronics when choosing abrake valve for this project, & they appear to be very good, but I believe they pulsate for proportional braking & because of that use more air. The UP-6 is just bullet proof, & I was hard pressed to read anything bad about it. Depending on weight, maybe I'll try the electric brakes on my EDF Maverick. I really just want the elec brake experience

The system I saw seems to work just like the brake master cylinder in your car except pneumatic instead of hydraulic.
Here's a link to a picture that will probably make way more sense than my description; http://www.bvmjets.com/Accessories/PASR0044.jpg

I have used a jetronic and air power electronic valves before. I have an air power valve in a comp arf spark and works well. No leak. I use the small robart air tank with BVM wheels and breaks. Works very well and plenty of air. Also they can be programmed to work proportionally or as off/on. I fly off paved runway. In my BVM Bandit MKII I will be installing jetronic valve with the small Robert tank. I was told the bvm airless valve does not have the "Umph" that air does and that's why I went with air and electric down and locked retracts.

BluBus:

On my Sprint, I have converted my Robart 630's to electric and have a small air tank (1.25" x 4.5") and a UP-6. I can pump the system to 100 lb and apply the brakes 15 times before I get to 50 lb pressure. Since I'm used to pressurizing my system before every flight, this tank is more than sufficient for my purposes.
