12x dsm2 still using it?
Hi
I am finishing up a new large SM Hawk.
I have a 12x/dsm2 but have been using my weatronic receiver with a JR 10x and weatronic transmitter module.
I am also waiting for a weatronic transmitter and wondering what the next JR system will actually look like later this year.
I am considering using my 12x/dsm2, which worked perfectly well in 3 jets so far for the new hawk. I am not going to spend more money on this system since it will be replaced with the weatronic tx or new JR system late 2013.
I will fly at a few events this year, usually a few planes at a time at most.
So, how many of you are still flying your jets with 12x/1221 or 1222 on Dsm2?
Thanks
Dave

I am still using my 12X/DSMX, but am slowly migrating to a 18MZ. I, like many others, have used the 12X/DSM2/DSMX at many events without a single issue. I am only switching to Futaba for the additional channels.

I also like that I can use the 12x for sequencing. While the weatronic can do it, I find it easier in the 12x.
I just hate to have this 4 year old (12X)radio be a paperweight when I am using my 12 year old radio routinely (10x with weatronic)....

RE: 12x dsm2 still using it?
I'm still flying a x9303 DSM2. I've never had an issue with it... so I never thought about upgrading. The DSMx system is cool, and has some advantages... but because it does hopping... the data from the fades/holds is almost useless. on a DSM2 system... a good connection will show no H/F and 40 or 50 ant. (or less) the DSMx system will show 200 to 400 ANT and that's normal.
With that said... I have a DX18 DSMx, and it works too.
BUT... I did find that the newer DSMx Rx's aren't really backward compatible with the DSM2 Tx's. (some work, and some flicker on the connection lights)

I am still using my 10X with my Panther, MY 12X with my Boomerang Nano, 'Cause I am too Lazy to program them into my DX 18 that I use for my F-16 and my Kingcat. which were set up on the 18 originally. That SD card sure makes it easy...........LOL

I still have six jets on my DSX-12. All my friends fly DSX-12's so probably 30 jets flown regularly, bullet proof radio. Only just started using DMSS in jets with my GJC Mig 15 and at 9 flights without a peep.
The new radio on DMSS will gradually replace my DSX-12, but I see zero point in changing existing models that have hundreds and hundreds of flights between them and not a single issue
Go with it till JR bring out the big guns later this year

I am assuming the DSX12 you mention is DSMX? Just wanted to clarify that mine is the older 12X/DSM2. i have never heard of any increased crash rate with the older dsm2, just that the new stuff came along etc...
Thank you all for taking a look and commenting.
I do enjoy my Weatronic but with the 10X being older I imagine that the 12x is more "reliable" and has more life on the gimbals - plus id doesn't have the patch cable "weakest" link...

No, its DSM-2 original DSX-12. All the sixty plus radios we sold were just the DSM-2 type. So now I guess its around 5 years old now. Not used DSM-X in anything as when JR and Horizon split and Horizon went their own way I wasn't sure any more.

I can never keep it straight which is which, my 12X is around 7 years old now I guess, so that makes it DSM2? And the new one is DSMX? I need to buy a couple receivers and want to make sure I get the right ones!

Your radio should be DSM2. There are no more DSM2 receivers available, but the DSMX are backwards compatible, so no problem for you. Just buy Spektrum receivers on DSMX and you will be OK.
The same does not apply to DMSS, the DMSS jr's are not backwards compatible
How many channels do you need? I do have a spektrum DSM2 9 channel powersafe that I'm not using... PM if you want it (you name the price)

Jeremy, Jack and DW - Thank for your comments.
My receivers are older - DSM2. I understand I can get the DSMx receivers for my 12x but I am not sure it is necessary. The two 1221/2 receivers I have flew my Super Hornet and F22 with no issues and need a home now..again, while waiting for the next things I wish to purchase...

Still flying all DSM2 and DSMx with no problems, no reason to change at this point until there is a need for more channels then my 12 can handle. I wonder how long a transmitters life is, my boys use my older 10sx2 that is now about 13+ years old and an even older 10sx that Harley use to own. Both of those have been converted to 2.4 and new enloops, work great so far.

RE: 12x dsm2 still using it?
Hi Dave
I recently sold my 12X, I really liked it in its day but the direction JR have gone with the aesthetics of their new radios and their unwillingness to provide PowerBox the codes for DMSS format have left me unable to continue to use their systems. I always thought it was limited on the programming front and never understood why you couldn't freely assign any channel to any switch. It made setting up a complex scale jet very frustrating. I brought a DX18 which has made my life much easier on the set up side of things once you get over its inferior plastic feel. I don't own many models and presently only have one jet so I'm lucky I can just chop and change system without incurring much cost. I tend to follow what my customers have which is Spektrum and Futaba this makes my builds easier when I have the appropriate transmitters.
I'm looking forward to JR's next release, I hope its a good one.
Cheers, Alex

RE: 12x dsm2 still using it?
I was actually reluctant to upgrade my 12X DSM2 to DSMX as a friend told me that all his flap settings got messed up on existing models after the upgrade. Anyone have these problems?
