Thanks Carlos, I think Raul enjoyed flying this side of the pond, and it would be great also if one year of this you come to the Manecojets with your father too!
Un abrazo, Enrique.

Haha.. Now you reminded a relative of a friend I meet in Chile, David. He told me that he has 16 brothers in his family.
so I said - Wow,,that´s a big family!
he said - Yes, but only two of us are alive.

This is the first time we do this kind of event, but now we are thinking that we should have one every year. I will let you know in advance when a decision has been made.

Hi Springbok, this event, was the fifth edition of Manecojet. This edition happened in Chile, anf the first four in Brazil. This is not a open event, but a invitational one. Whiy it is a invitational and how you can get a invitation? it is very simple as we only need to know that you are proeficient enough in jet flying to not represent a hazard to other pilots and spectators., feel yourself free to pm me or email Manoel Dias itself if you are interested in attending the next Manecojet.
I don´t know where in the world will be the next Manecojets, LOL but I hope I will be able to fly in the CACH again!

The only crash happened when a brand new F-4 was test flown (wisely) after the end of the event. The cause of the crash was a builder error in the elevator linkage.. sad to see but fortunately he understood his mistake and bet that he will never make it again.
I really wonder where you get your information regarding the reason why this plane went down. 99% of the plane was destroyed to the extent that determining the reason for the mishap is virtually impossible. I inspected every section of this jet as the building progress was done. What was left of the tail section was inspected by me being the person responsible for setting and programming the radio for the buyer. No problems were found regarding the building of the plane, what was found was that one of the elevator servos was locked. To determine if it was a servo gone bad or if this was caused by the crash it was send to JR Horizon Hobbies for their inspection. As far as the builder goes, he might be sad regarding the outcome but has yet to recognize a builders error since there was none.

Hi Misha, first of all is great to meet you here, and looking forward to dinner with you and Ariel at our next meeting in Rumipal.
Also hope we can debate what I and other experienced jet builders had seen in the wreckage of the elevator assembly in wich we unanimously agreed was the cause of the crash, in a constructive way, that may help other builders avoid similar and dangerous high-energy crashes.
As I had seen In the remains of the elevator, (fortunately there wasn´t fire at the crash) the metal servo arms used where extremely long and as a consequence the force applied in the flying elevator where extremely low, no matter how strong the servos are. Force applied = Servo torque / servo arm length.
During the first and only flight, in the first pull up after a shallow dive in wich more force in the elevators where required, the elevator failed to respond and the aircraft crashed to the ground at high speed. The pilot reported that he had control in the roll axis, but the aircraft failed to respond to elevator input even if full up command was given.
I didn´t wanted to bother the builder about this, nor take a picture of the servo arms, that I believe there still available for us to see, if the builder wants to show them.
Any contra argumentation is welcome, and hope we be able to enlighten this unfortunate incident.

One question regarding the equipment used in the F4 that crashed......
Was the powerbox that was used in this plane involved in another crash (water) ? Could this have been a factor for the crash ?
Talked with some people in the club that own F4's and they told me that they saw the servo arms and the weren't any different from what they have.

I don´t know Gonzalo, however with or without a brand new powerbox, that F4 would crashed anyway.
I didn´t measured exactly the servo arms, but they where about as long as my indicator finger(!). If more people are using them, they have a severe technical flaw in their planes.

OK.... last night I was having a chat with the builder and he confirmed a couple of things to me. Just trying to put facts here....
- This was the second F4 he assembled for the same pilot.
- The first one was lost during an event in Argentina due to a stall during landing approach. This jet was able to make two successful flights before being destroyed.
- Both F4's were build using the same type of equipment and same adjustments. The only difference between the two planes was the color of the inside trays that hold the electronic equipment.
- No Powerbox was used in these planes and all the equipment was brand new. A high voltage receiver with four satellites was used. A Smart Fly voltage regulator was also used since the 8711 servos were not high voltage.
- No range test was done to the plane since the pilot was in a hurry because it was starting to get dark.
- The plane flew for around four (4) minutes before crashing. During those minutes, the plane performed some high alpha maneuvers without a problem.
- In one maneuver were the plane was coming down at a 10º or 15º angle, the plane wasn't able to level. The strange thing is that the plane rolled to the right before going down.
- Post Morten inspection showed that one elevator servo was completely frozen. We don't know if this happened during flight or was a result of the crash.
- Servo arms were mounted as per suggestion of the manufacturer in order to be able to get all the elevator movement that is recommend for that plane.
- The plane was originally programmed with another JR radio. The program was copied and transferred to the pilots radio were it was tested. No range test was done.
During the weekend, I will try to take pictures of the remains and compare them to three (3) other F4's we have in our club.

Ok Gonzalo, but I think that it would be a good idea to put this debate in another thread, as I personally don´t care about this accident and neither Manoel cares at all too. Hope this thread will remain as a register on how good and pleasant was our weekend in Chile and had such a good time with good old friends.
best regards, Enrique.

I saw the accident too.
This day was too dark and cloudy and the plane flew very far from the pilot and full speed.
When the plane crashed the pilot just see the front gray of the jet in dark and cloudy day, why the plane rolled before crash?
