That was my first jet! Mine was powered by a P-120 and was tons of fun.

RE: Redesign/build FEJ
i have the new direct drive on my f-14. i'm not sure if anyone had any issues with the new system. i believe the the fej f-16 1.5 has the same system and have been flying with no issues. i know Ali did a build thread.
i kind of like the servo trays better but i am going to use what i have. i will make a few formers out of plywood for the rear of my jet. here are some pics

RE: Redesign/build FEJ
I have around 20 flights Dantley, and I would not call them gentle. Sure they are not fast but I have been pulling it hard. I think the pull 45 half roll and then full up half reverse to exit positive AOA high alpha is far from gentle. Especially for a big old bird like the 16. However.. and here is the however... I am not 100% in love with the direct control system. It works, and has been working.. I just feel that there is potential for movement ( In the servo arm and then in the servo mount itself )

Ali, thanks clarifying. I hope you get to add another zero to your 20 flights. Please keep us aprised of any mods or maintenance needed for the direct drive system over the life of the plane. There are a lot of people who will benefit frim your experience.

Will do. I am actually looking at trying a mod to a more conventional control system ( External pushrod and servo arm ) Fairly soon. As clever as the direct servo drive system is, I do feel that it allows potential for unwanted control surface movement which is something I am really set against.

RE: Redesign/build FEJ
I just got my 1:4,6 F-16, the one with the Tiger colors here: http://www.flyeaglejet.com/en/F161.46.html.
Mine has solid ply and all-cover carbon on all the formers behind TE of the wing, looks very good, very nice work.
Perfect amount of glue and high quality ply.
I have also (allready) balanced each elevator with 180 g lead, using hail from 5pc - 12 gauge shotgun cartridges in each. Mixed with 20 grams of epoxy.
And yes, I tested one elevator with-, and one without lead, and it performed as expected...
180 grams seems alot, but it`s nessacery to balance those elevators.
I will not use slats, and ailerons just as flaps, and ailerons/flaps will also be weight balanced when I get there.
A P200SX for power.

RE: Redesign/build FEJ
I don`t know what drive there is, cause there was nothing in the box.
But emailed FEJ and got a confirmed reply five minutes later, saying everything missed will be here next week.
Tried to upload pix, but receive a "500 error internal server error" message..
There should be a list for the customer to check he have received all the things included in the kit, but I guess that sorts out in the manual when I get it.
I`m impressed about both the inside and the paint.. No, I`m not a rep, just a happy owner.

RE: Redesign/build FEJ
If I bought one of these I was going to request the old style pull/pull rod style, does the MAC look right with yours? Plus now from you can request ply, ply/carbon, or honeycomb bulkheads, I would get the ply/carbon of course.

The difference is the balance..
Thanks, I know I will.

Yeah!
God knows that's the ONLY difference! I don't suppose you happened to read Oli's thread? Well, nevermind, I just remembered that it wouldn't matter if the Good Lord himself came down and told you that it wouldn't have made a lick of difference...
