The JMA guys do a great job of finding us places to fly our toys and for those who disagree or think it's too expensive then think again as you clearly don't have clue what you are talking about. You haven't got any idea about costs or what personal time these UNPAID volunteers put in to finding and negotiating the use venues not forgetting the admin like arranging NOTAM that go's with each meet. And just to show our appreciation we all put our applications in on the cut off date so the committee have to run around at the last minute getting us all booked on MOD land so YOU can enjoy your jet meet.

Oh and Adam you really should not post on public forums because you make yourself look a right knob.

Don't panic Keith, the insults were clearly aimed at me as I am even named in Dave's post.

Other than pointing out that Sculthorpe isn't that far north, I haven't placed any criticism on the JMA committee. As I said in my earlier post, I am a victim of my location more than anything else. When I work a full week the number of events that I can get to are limited as a lot of them are just too far away - I didn't say this was the JMA's fault. All I stated was my reason for not rejoining the JMA, and I know that I am not the only one from my area. I fail to see that this makes me the reason for 'the state of the modelling scene' when I prefer to spend my money on models and flying rather than diesel for my car and accommodation costs.

£40 membership might be peanuts but if I don't attend any events at all (which is quite possible) then what do I get for my money? I want to support the JMA but I don't want to throw money away either; I can get more than 40 litres of fuel for £40 and that will last me a good weekend (or 2) flying at my local club.

It is a simple fact that the JMA can't serve everyone and that is fine. For example, when was the last JMA meet in Scotland? Are the Scottish Jet Modellers guilty of destroying the UK hobby scene because they don't join the JMA and attend events (I am aware that there probably are some Scottish JMA members but I think the point is still valid).

For those of you that live near JMA event locations or have the time to travel to them, I am most envious. However, I don't think I should be criticised because I am not and, as a result, elect not to join. My point was that if membership was £5 (to cover admin) and the daily attendance fees were higher to compensate then I might re-join on the off-chance that I might be able to attend an event; I am not paying £40 on an off-chance and whilst others may not agree with me, my decision should be respected. If the new payment system works then good for the JMA; you won't get (and haven't got) any criticism from me for it.

The only reason I posted my initial response on a thread about Sculthorpe is that the early discussion seemed to have been implying that it was quite far north which appeared to reinforce my (maybe incorrect) feeling that the JMA is really an organisation for the south of the UK and not the UK as a whole. It is the location of events that drives the total cost up rather than the JMA fees.

I'm up for it!
It's not that far, and we always have a good laugh!
Surrey is not an rc aircraft friendly area, this makes suitable flying sites for Turbines more difficult to find!
For these reasons I am greatful to the JMA for all the hard work they put in to make these meetings possible!

I'm not on this forum for a slagging match, but Adam your comments along with your lack of support for the JMA, are only reinforced by your non attendance at any of the meeting organised by the committee!
Pictures of old car wheels really have no association with our hobby!

Not quite done with, there is a slight chance that I might be able to book sat 5th to make it a two day meet as it seems that's what most people want this is now in process and I will let you all know A.S.A.P

Brilliant news Keith. Will be coming up on the Friday evening so as Jamie says, can you recommend somewhere local to stay for a couple of nights. Preferably a pub with some rooms so we can have a few beers

There is no camping or caravanning overnight on the airfield but a camp site just up the road,Fakenham is the nearest town loads of B&Bs in the area regards Keith

I will go over there and have a look for any good pubs with rooms so give me some time and I will get back to all, camping place is on the Syderstone Road which runs along side the airfield I have been told its very good and not expensive.

great news Keith. I rent a property just outside the airfield for my family once a year. I might just have to see if its available that week Lovely part of the Uk that I try and spend as much R and R time in as I can.
Thanks for going out of your way to make the event happen.
Regards Al

Go to the JMA web site. Look at Forums- Membership information, and all the fees are listed there.
