Default RE: GEAR FAIL SAFE

Have always had great luck with the Tams Gear Failsafe.

Am now trying a new set of Behotec electric gear which has a low voltage gear failsafe built in. So far so good on this setup as well.

I have yet to install it, but I just purchased an EDR-126 which reads & looks to be pretty simple. Having inadvertently powered up twice with the gear switch in the up position on my F-4 (luckily with no damage except ego) I decided to give the EDR-126 a try.

Default RE: GEAR FAIL SAFE

There are several versions of landing gear failsafe units. The EDR-126 Gear Saver from Electro Dynamics prevents gear retraction when first turning on your R/C system. Some 2.4 systems cycle the servos upon binding and this may cause a gear collapse if the system is aired up. The Gear Saver can also extend your gear when first powering up the receiver and a transmitter is not required. The TAM, Dreamworks and other units utilize a pressure switch to extend the gear if air pressure is lost inflight. The pressure switch activates your gear and door servos. Spring Air and some Robart retracts rely on air pressure to hold the gear in the up position, if the pressure is lost then an internalspring extends and locks the gear in the down position. The newer electric retracts may or may not have a fail safe function but if power is lost then the gear remain in their last position. There arepros and cons to each. I've hadgood luck withall theunits mentioned here withthe exception of thee-tracts which I have not yet installed.

Default RE: GEAR FAIL SAFE

I just installed my Dreamworks gear failsafe in my Yellow F22 while I have not tested it in the field it works perfectly under simulated conditions.
The only thing i noticed is my retract servo twitches every few seconds with the gear up? I put my servo load meter on it thinking maybe the fail safe throws
off the endpoints or something but its fine. just twitches every few seconds is this normal with a fail safe unit?

Dan, are you using one on your bvm Sabre? How does it handle the retracts and doors as these are on totally separate and isolated systems? Ie. separate tank, fill valve, etc.

Tams work for me. Had a leak in my U-flash. Worked perfectly and brought the gear down for me! Now I have them in all my planes!

Tam's gear fail safe!

Use them in all my jets; the work flawlessly.

Thanks

I like 42% scale. It has LED that shows you system pressure. Bought it just for that feature alone. Little pricey, but soooo worth it.
