Sorry to read this, this is also very sad because this person lost contact with his family and he will never have it anymore.. fortunately he had a good friend like Bob.

And regardless if we believe in afterlife or not, I like to remember the spanish quote "que me quiten lo bailao" that loosely translated to english means " I dare anyone to take me away the good moments I lived".

We are blessed in having so many good moments doing what we like.. and having a extraordinaire hobby like ours.

Thanks for the e-mails and calls this morning regarding Ken. I didn't know much about Ken's background as far as his military service is concerned. He served in Vietman as a marine..
Over the last few years you could find him at one of three places, home, in a hospital somewhere or at the model field. That was his life
There will be no services or funeral as the VA didn't see fit to give him a military funeral even though he was on a 100% service connected disability.
Once his estate is settled, if there is any money left over he wants me to donate it to the Wounded Warriors Program. If any one wants to make a small donation to the program, please do so in the name of Kenneth W. White II.
Thanks

I'm in, just made a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project in Ken's name. I challenge all of you who knew Ken to do the same, he was a proud warrior. Rest in Peace Ken.

Pat, there will be no arrangements. VA wouldn't go for it. I wanted to have a viewing, cremation and later spread his ashes at ARCA. It would have cost $6000 to get that done. The only thing VA would do is have the funeral home pick him, embalm him and a burial in a VA cemetery in Killeen TX.
That's not much after serving his country the way he did.

Also Pat, at the Greater Southwest jet Rally we will do a moment of silence for Ken.
Ken's favorite plane was the Panther. His is being repaired right now and I hope it will be ready in time for the Southwest to put on display.

Ken probably did not know this, but he was my first idol in RC Airplanes. The first time I visited ARCA with a home made prop plane, he was landing a big gasser, it might have even been a twin. When he taxi it in, the possibilities I saw were endless. New guys always want to talk to the old guys about how this and that is done. And I found in Ken that he was willing to talk about it till well past the sun going down. Ken was passionate about war birds and jets. And if it was a war bird and a jet, he was all over it.........Even if it was painted in sport colors which he claimed to ma many times did not matter LOL.

Sorry to be hearing about this so late in the game. Many of you know how much an asset Mr. Covish is to this hobby, I'll never forget one time I was involved in a car accident about 12 states away from him and he suggested he would drive out to help me. What an amazing guy.

Trust there are Panther's and F-20's in RC Jet heaven............

Bob

My wife is a National Memorial Lady. She volunteers every month with many others at the VA cemetary here is Houston. They are there for just this kind of funeral. They stand for the fallen hero so no one is buried alone. When family can be there she presents a folded flag to them. There is a 21 gun salute and she says a prayer for the family or just the fallen soldier

God Bless Ken

Kevin, I would like for something like that to happen at the Greater Southwest in Waco as a memorial to Ken.. Would she know if there is an organization like that in Waco.

Ken life revolved around model aircraft. If he wasn't at home or in the hospital, he was at the model field.

Had some good news a little while ago. Sonya (Ken's daugher) has been located in Sacremento CA thanks to my neighbor Gwen Kinney. Gwen talked to her for an hour. Sonya was told that Ken died in 2004 but couldn't find any info about it. When I talk to Sonya, I will give her all the info she wants or needs.

I want to thank the moderators for leaving this thread open.

To add to what Sean said about Ken. Before I started flying RC Jets (ducted fans) I would go to the shows and watch in awe of the "Jet Jocks". Ken would be there flying his Panther and I would be video taping it fly. He was a big inspiration for me getting into jets. He was a very kind man who loved RC. I'm glad to have known him. God speed Ken.

Bob

I found out a little info for you. You need to request with funeral home and VA Cemetary ( Must be Requested ) for Full Military honors with TAPS Rifle Volley and Presentation of flag to next of kin. This will be at VA Cemetary ( They may have a Patriot Guard to bring him in) Request that as well. Hope this helps. maybe the daughter could be there to receive the flag.

Thanks for what you are doing Bob

Thanks for the info Kevin. I think a decision has been made to do a small memorial at the Southwest in Waco. Also James Smith from Ft. Worth will play taps.

Bob,
Ask the Marine Color Guard to do the opening ceremony, post the colors and have the memorial. Cant imagine they wouldnt honor your request for Ken. Does Austin have a Marine Reserve detachment? If not ask the local Marine recruiters.
