I did the same thing as Nigel some years ago. After flying RC for more than 40 years I programmed the exponentials the wrong way in the transmitter. My Euro went uncontrollable and ended up in a wood 2 km away and burned. It has taken me some years to regain my self confidence. But now I am back on the track with a new Eurosport. Lick your wounds for a while and then start again. Don´t worry!

Default Test Flown!!

Finally one month long effort was fruitful...
Maidened the Xcalibur.

The first flight was very scary, soon after takeoff the aircraft climbed like crazy, i exhausted all my down elevator trims, still the aircraft climbs.
Did totally three flights.

I remember people here talking of changing the incidence of the tail plane, how much down incidence are we looking at?

Regards,
Adarsh

Start with a 4mm shim in the front of the horizontal stab

Thanks Jannica, not flown jets since the accident but ready to maiden my Excaliber in the next week or so which should be an ideal way to build confidence again.

In 100 kits sold here in the UK none have needed a shim. If the tail seats and the notch is not pushing on the lower tail skin ( and you do not assemble the jet with the fuselage on one side of a stand and the booms on the other-screwing the booms home with an up set) there should be no shim.
it cannot only be US kits

Can the crow users confirm the elevator trim is down with crow? I am pretty sure but don't want to be fighting the approach during landing. Plane fly's great with a JC Rabbit. No issues with climbing with full power at all. Great value for the money.

Hardly adds any more down required if they come in slowly. Maybe another 0.5mm down
It just changes the AOA sit

My friend and I, bought two Xcaliburs at Jetpower in 2015, one of them (my frinds) is sensitive to climbing (a lot!) under power. He will be experimenting with shims on the elevator (waiting for the weather to behave again). He tried adjusting the angle of the engine, no change. So at least one in Europe with the same problem

Can you get him to cut a rectangle and insert it in the tail, so at the thickest part its level with the lower surface and photo?
The booms only have to be lifted a fraction or whole tailplane not seated and it would cause a climb-but still not had it on any of the 30-40, I have test flown (I check the tail seats on the cut out before test flying)

Not sure Dave, I'll check. Maidened it this morning and Wow! Great fun, flew like it was on rails and more than enough power as you'd expect. At one point I flew it down the run way on low throttle, pulled it vertical in front of myself and opened the throttle at the same time. It almost came to a stop before the turbine spooled up and then it accelerated vertically, awesome!
Flying at the Lake Havasu jet meet next weekend so hopefully get some video footage. What a great airplane!

3.5oz nose weight. 21.5lbs total weight with UAT fueled. No wonder it has spectacular verticals on a 120!

We went out early this morning and test flew my friends Excalibur with kintech80. what an awsome jet. its so smooth, its very predictable in the landings and the take offs are just plain pretty. This is hands down the best twin boom sports jet I have seen.

The extra weight means I have to work a little harder to slow it down, but with the split rudders (which work a treat) and full flap I shouldn't have any trouble. Will get plenty of flights in at next weekend jet meet so should have plenty of time to perfect the landings. Stall was really benign even with the extra weight of the P120 so I'm not worried about slowing it down, just gotta remember to keep the nose high and fly it in under power, perfect practice for my Jet Legend F22 which you have to bring in nose high.

Maidened my Xc with K80 Kingtech yesterday. Was so surpriced how well this jet flew! No issues with climbing under power. And boy this jet slows down so well for smooth landings its not funny. If you cant land this then your basics are lacking.

Just do the mod at the back to ensure the tail plane seats as intended... Turbine points down as per fitted rails.... Works perfect. Also no nose weight added, just have a hopper tank on the front trays...

For sure no problem landing long ;-)

OK, tailplane, I'm still getting questions, so for one of our friends in India here are some pictures I have just taken of my Xcalibur.

There must be a gap where I have slid in this razor saw blade or it raises the trailing edge (up elevator)

take a small saw and cut 1-2mm off there at the back to ensure the tail plane seats properly on the the vertical fins.

Great! Looks like we found the reason!
Yes, there is a wooden block, so take the tail off, cut 1.5mm and you should have no climbing

Should we have aileron differential on the Xcaliber? I have more down than up with the standard settings but I would guess that should be the other way around if anything.

Never negative. If the horn is on the hinge line and the servo arm square there should be none!
but normally none is needed, or 2% positive.
