Hi Jim,
Well done on your maiden flight, glad all went well. Can I ask what TX and RX are you using.

I forgot to mention. I changed the elevator horn for a metal one. The reason being, I had a Boomerang with a plastic horn & eventually the heat from the turbine, made the plastic brittle, causing it to break. Luckily it broke while on the ground.

I looked at the heat/horn situation. The tail is quite a bit higher than the Boomers and the test models all have plenty of flights over a long period of time. No sign of it going brittle. There are many types of plastic/nylon and these horns are fibre filled. Certainly worth monitoring for sure.
Only 2 weeks for more, can't wait :-))

Hi, I am using the landing gear supplied for the Xcalibur. It appears very good quality & leak free.

The Xcalibur tends to float along the runway, so get as much flap on for landing as you can & I used 10mm of crow, which made it even easier.

I asked the question because I saw Jetronics valves in your pics. Was this because the supplied valves were no good ?

No, I am sure the supplied valves will be fine.
Since I started flying jets, I have never been a fan of that type of valve worked with servos. I always use either electronic valves, or UP valves.
It's just a matter of preference.

Alf

We talked about orange or Yellow...so red is also a possible colour for this scheme.

2 weeks...I'll email retract info now

I've sold JR 3401, Savox 1250MG, JR 9421 all for rudders, know of people fitting std size too as the factory put a full size opening when they were supposed to put midi size holes! Lighter the better is the word.

Here is a question to those who have flown this model, is there any tendency to "Cobra" on landing like the first versions of the FB Velox?
FB has since fixed that tendency by making the booms longer.

So far, I have not had any bad experiences with the Xcalibur. I had an older model Velox & it was an accident waiting to happen.
The Xcalibur is longer than the Boomerangs dimensions, which is probably why it performs so well.

No not at all. We lengthend the booms by 2" during the development, but that was just to reduce a fish tail in bumpy conditions, the nose is quite long... I have Paul playing with balance today and he's now removed 80 grams of weight and its still behaving well.

The Velox was an interesting one...the Hotspot would also do it with a rear balance

Hoping to have another M&R supplied Xcalibur in the air soon.
Just receiver to install/connect and set up, then complete assembly of airfame to enable final position of batteries and ballast to be done
Pictures will be posted this weekend

Question

Hi,

Would this be a good first turbine jet since it is similar to a Boomer? Also, what is "cobra"?

Regards.

Yes it would be about the best first jet money can buy

A cobra is a high alfa pitch up of the plane. Ie nose up tail down like a cobra rearing up. This model does not do this though

I believe that the Oleos for this aircraft are "socket" type. Can someone tell me what the diameter of the sockets and their depth are please?

Thanks

Thanks Dave, much appreciated. I would like to use a set of Behotec C36 retracts (air up/spring down), as I've developed an unhealthy dislike to air/air retracts. I'm just looking at options for Oleos, wheels and brakes. Would the 105mm oleos for the Nano on your site fit?
