Ripmax Xcalibur Sports jet

Gear installed. I put safety wires on the nipples to ensure they dont come off. Drilled holes in the fuselage to run the air tubes. I've got to do a little head scratching to decide how to run the steering cables. Off to the big Perry, Ga swap meet tomorrow, a Corvette fun run Saturday, fly Sunday and maybe back in the shop for a few minutes Monday. Pat, this is not a big as a Boomerang XL. It's a 60-80 size jet.

Billy Can't really do it that way as overall weight will change the main leg trail and increase/decrease the lever. (OK it would get you close...but so does just flying it!) I marked most of the ones I've checked on the boom with tape and picked it up with fingers. Its not so far apart for your arms and it gets you in the ball park so you can safely fly and then adjust the balance to suit taste.

Wn is weight on nose wheel, Wt is total weight. Wn = 0,114 x Wt.
Good luck, Marco

Ripmax says header tank should be full but don't mention the main tank! I assume the main should be empty then so CG per instructions is most aft thus safer?

It took so much of my artistic juices to make that drawing of an Xcalibur for r3 that I posted anyway. Just couldn't let it go to waist! I didn't take into account the change of leg trail due to changing overall weight. However the springs on my jet are so very stiff that I doubt that they will extend even the slightest bid with approximately 3,5 kg per wheel. I was already concerned about this very stiff suspension before the CG issue arose. Most jets I've seen have suspensions like a Cadillac! Wonder how the jet absorbs a firm landing.

You'll be surprised how soft the Xcalibur springs are fully fat with fuel. Turn it fast full and the wings lean nicely! I've seen on "caked"-"Slamm dunked" and the gear stands up well.

Another jet pilot signed off at PMFC. Colin's retirement present at Xmas was a complete Xcalibur package and P-100Rx. I test flew it last weekend, but a loose tank plate stopped any more than the test flight (check gluing on this part-this one was barely tacked) Today Colin did his first complete flights, all perfect start to finish. I was too busy instructing to get more shots, but his smooth flights showed what a perfect first model this is.

Well, have almost completed my Excalibur! I did a couple of things slightly different and one was to use my own juice bottle tank of 2.4 liters instead of the supplied 3 liter tank. i completed the fuselage install first and was then able to check my engine installation early on.After some full power static runs, I noticed some fairly serious scorching of the fuselage just above the flaps. If you install the engine with the full part of the tail cone past the end of the engine bay, then you may not need any heat shielding. I made up some heat shied using a beer can and aluminium speed tape,(given to me by one of the aircraft engineers at work!) This solved the heat issue straight away, with minimal weight added at the back of the aircraft. remember, those long booms make this a quite tail heavy model, so as has been said before here, keep everything that you can towards the nose. Mine needed about 300 grams of lead to balance. I also added some carbon rods to the hatch cover to make it a little stiffer. All things going well, I will do the maiden within a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed!!

Good point Dave. Of course I found the four pieces of hard wood AFTER I had mounted the turbine, so just to make sure, I think that I will use those, and that will raise the engine by another 12mm. Yes, it has been a long hot summer and that means that for many days we cannot fly turbines because of fire bans. I can imagine that it would not be much fun flying in below freezing weather, either!

You don't have to use it all, but some packing was always intended to be used.
Its not been that cold here...but wet enough that floats are needed ;-)

Rub it in why not ;-) Luckily I don't like heat!
We are lucky, this batch arriving a big one, so i'm still taking orders daily and meeting them.

Batch three is just arriving, I think they are pretty much there. I'll be building one myself so I guess I'll see soon enough :-) Most of the bugs have been listed here and none are major

A little work done this weekend, family stuff and work has taken most of my time. I placed some heat shield paint in the motor area, mounted my "stuff" on the equipment trays. I dont do interior paint, aint goint to Top Gun with this one....with my limited building time I dont want to waste time.

hi all have spent eight hours on my Excalibur all surfaces done didn't use the scew on horns . cut slots and glued in carbon horns much safer in my opinion
maybe ripmax could look into this on future production runs. found the model to fit together very well. there is something all Chinese manufacturers could do
and that is use at least 3mm wood for trays around servo's so there is a decent screw point had to beef up all screw points. to get the kingtech K100G in I had
to do major surgery at the back of the model so I can slide it in from behind worked out well. will be picking up my trim aircraft electric retracts tomorrow so it
will be sitting on wheels by lunch time. next couple of day's fit all the rc gear and hope to test fly on the weekend
regards
