I found a burr on the wing clamp was preventing the CF tube from being fully seated. Check the CF tube in the clamp by looking through the ailerons servo bay before you close up the servo hatch.

Out of curiosity, how does it knife edge? Not looking for KE loops or anything but I like end to end knife edge passes and the occasional knife edge circle.

Thanks!

Not that great, its the one thing it misses on. Its not got a lot of side area and KE needs good speed to hold. Its fine in point rolls. I have an idea I'm gonna try with strakes on the booms, but its such a hoot doing square loops and snaps, spins etc I don't miss the long KE passes.

I had the first flight last weekend, and I did not touch the trims at all, which is a first for me! Three flights in total, and I much prefer it to my Falcon 120, and alot quicker to set up at the field, as well. I can see that this is going to become my favorite jet! The 18lb thrust PST800R turbine is also a perfect match. Here is a pretty average video of the maiden flight, but better than nothing!!

Great you have it flown. Were you taking off with flap? On a hard surface it should rotate in 30-40m. (looked longer on video but difficult to see!)

Carried mine around all weekend with the tank filled ready to slide on the wings and go...unfortunately the weather didn't play ball :-(
Jet Meeting friday so should get some flying there

Dave, first flight felt a little under-powered, but still plenty. I checked the ECU and found that the engine was only reaching 130K, instead of the rated 153K. Reset the parameters and as you know, turbines develop most of their power in the upper speed schedule, and the difference was amazing! PST have a very strange setup on this engine where the maximum RPM can only be set if the engine is running, and above 30% power. I haven't used the flaps yet for takeoff or landing, but when I tried them airborne, it just slowed down with no trim change. Very impressive! Second takeoff was about 50 metres.

Nice flight. What flying time are you doing? Difficult to gauge on the video

I had my timer set for 6 mins landed as the timer went off ,,still had a little more than a quarter tank of fuel so I could go to 7 mins easy and still have enough for a go around

OK, I'm flying 9 minutes with the P-100RX, but my throttle use is very active and I like mixed flying (plenty of slow cruise stuff)

Looking good. K-80 has a nice resonance in the air. Sounds great.

Hi everybody! I tested my Xcalibur yesterday and it's a blast!!! Easiest jet I ever flown, but still flies with authority and precision. The combination with the JetMunt VT80 is great! I hope to arrive to attach here some pics, and to have a video soon.

So 80mAh per pack per flight, probably means I have around 20 safe flights per charge!

Hi Dave, nice to know numbers! Do you have any idea how many mAh's per engine start?
It looks like I am gonna do my first flight on vacation in France so I am gonna set the CG on a "dry" aeroplane", using some lead to simulate a full hopper. Would 170 mm a be a good number to start with? Or should CG be even more aft if main tank is empty?

Thanks, Marco

I set mine at 160 mm with empty tank. Needed 300 gr. of lead in the nose, together with two Powerbox 2800 mAh batt. plus one ThunderPower 2S 2700 mAh for the turbine. At 160 mm the model is really good at all speeds, also during stalls tests with and without flaps, both level and during turns. I like to have a model like this a bit nose heavy, I think you can go at 170 mm without problems. Maybe you'll need a little mix with the flap down.

All the best, Marco (too!)

Marco

Depends on your turbine! My P-100Rx is running a 3400 3s Li-FE pack (larger than std JetCat) and I'm only using 250-275mAH per flight.
You can balance between 160 and 170mm empty, depends how neutral you like it.

What its all about! I have actually just been to our field, my family are all away (Son is in Holland!) so I'm a bachelor again, having worked till 10-11pm the last two nights and looking like another late one tonight, I decided to zip to our local field 15 minutes away, 3 minutes after arriving I was starting up (filled the tank here before heading off) had two flights and was back in the office just over an hour later. So quick to rig, its the best thought out twin boom aeroplane yet. Brilliant :-)

All three jets I've built I've always measured CG with bubble trap full.
Theory behind that is it should never be empty...if it is your likely going to have a serious problem. Also it would be location Dependant, I've gotten mine right up front. I'll try balance it at 165mm this week.

At Classic Jets yesterday (separate thread on here) there were four Xcalibur flying, I test flew a P-60 powered example for Eric, like all before it was fault free and his set up of movements, expo and flap/elevator compensation proved spot on. He was delighted with his choice.

Paul 0088 was another with a P-60 powered example.

Dave thanks for your help with the CG and mAmp's. I'll start with 170 mm, full hopper, empty main. Have no idea what my preference for neutrality is. Just hope it flies as easy as an 737!!
Xcalibur should be finished tomorrow, maiden flight in France on 22nd. Still looking for an RC club in Holland. The latest one I checked out has a 89 dB limit measured at 3m. Which turbine can do that??? Holland is just to small/crowded for jets. Cheers, Marco.

Hi Marco, thanks for your help also. Except for the name, we also share the choice of turbine. I fitted my VT80 yesterday, 3 cm more forward by shortening the inlet duct and cutting away some of the timber. Hope it saves some lead!
I see your fod guard seems loose or is it secured out of sight of your camera? My fod guard is slightly loose as well, doubt if it needs to be tight.
Used your picture with the mountains in the back as my new desk top. Awesome, thanks!
Ciao, Marco

Do you think this bird will knife edge if the rudder surface's are made longer. I would also increase the elevator surface to keep it in proportion with the rudders. Any thoughts on how this would work, & how much of an increase in size would be effective ?

Paul
