Wren 54 out and P100 fitted and ran it up today and all seems ok. So hope the weather is ok when you come up Dave and you can check it over and do a maiden for me. So it has worked out at total weight 8.9KG and had to put a 168g in the nose to get the C/G 70mm.

Have to say after watching Dave fly at Wings n Wheels the Xcalibur performed faultlessly completing an array of aerobatic manoeuvres including a limitless vertical on his Jetcat P100, awesome looking forward to test flying at North Weald, our members have two on the go and I think I'll get the job.

Dave,
Top advise regarding the use of insulation tape on retracts. What a difference it has made.
Someone asked me the other day. Are you sure that my turbine thrust angle is correct on xcalibur?. I have looked at other jets ie boomerang and ive noticed that the turbine sits horizontal and does not point down like on the xcalibur. Could you explain the reasons.
Thanks
J

We had another club flying day last weekend, and for the middle of winter had beatiful weather. Another Excalibur turned up on the day and had it's maiden flight, and as usual, flew perfectly! I believe that another two are being prepared in workshops here in South Australia, so obviously, the word is getting out about how nice these aircraft are! Here's a couple of pics from the day.

Thanks Russ, the strip was built years ago for all types of models, but particularly jet models.Every May, we have a large jet meet where pilots from all over the country come here and enjoy three days of jet flying. The club owns the 100 acre field outright, and it's a brilliant place to fly. As far as the winter goes, we have had record rainfall, so this day was a bonus as it was sunny and light winds.

Used it for years on TL legs, always a benefit!
Most Boomers do have down thrust (most twin boom actually) it to get the high mass (air) flow away from the tailplane. It would make the air going under the tail faster than above and the tail would be pulled down...making it climb. Its why some twin boom models climb under power. The different turbines have different exhaust velocities and this can change the angle needed (higher would need slightly more down angle)

I noticed my Excalibur trim changed at full noise.
Flying inverted, knife edge and with full flap was also difficult so I put a few washers under my custom made engine mounts, (which I suspect made mine worse vs the stock blocks supplied) to reduce the thrust angle. Only running a baby K80

When trimming the engine angle, first you must set the balance correctly, elevator neutral. Various methods, but rolling or, pulling 45 degrees an 3/4 power, rolling inverted end releasing the elevator control.
Once that is set you can trim for level flight at 50% power and try full power and idle and see what happens.
Failing that and "lazy" people, throttle to elevator mix ;-)

Well i started building last night. Had Cornel come over and point things out and give me some guidance. Brought me his Hysol gun and showed me some areas of concern that i should stiffen up.
Aileron's.
Making Cables,
Elevator servo mounted.
Installed 2 screws on the back side, just for added protection,
Nice closeup shot of the glue,

As per my previous post, I am very interested in fitting lights on my jets. So far, I have been very pleased with the result, considering that I have not spent much money, but I came across some more globes that are even more powerful and may be better suited for the purpose. Using a 3S LiPo battery, these little globes are drawing about 115 Milliamps, which is not much.Rated at 110 lumens, they are nearly three times brighter than my earlier globes. The jet will just need to carry around another small 3S battery, and maybe a RC switch, only if you want to be able to switch them on and off remotely. Here are a couple of pics, so feel free to let me know what you think. In the pics are some other globes that I tried, but not as good as the Ecolume globes.

I tap off mine to run retracts & brakes.
Thanks for the go on the lights!
