Numpty question coming When hinging the elevator to the tailplane or aileron to the wing etc, what is the min/max gap you should allow between them? I mean is 2mm acceptable or to much. Your thoughts please.

Too much. Least possible to get the movement stated. The bevel is not excessive. I guess I have 1mm
You can see on some of these shots of Dave Bugz model the norm

Thanks Dave, I will get the gap as small as I can, hopefully no more than 1mm max, but I fear I won't be able to achive max throws as I'm finding the bevels a little mean.
I think my Xcalibur Sport Scheme was from the same batch as yours ( I told you It wouldn't be a fast build ) I found the hinge holes in the rudders to be off centre so I have plugged with bulsa dowels and re drilled them.

You don't actually need as much as listed , close is good enough. I've set some of them with less movement for pilots who don't want as much control power.
Will see how the batch arriving this week work out, two have now been ordered by local guys so I can see for myself. The last two I built were pretty good.

Its around 2.5mm measured at the elevator tip. Depends exactly how much flap movement you get, more flap less down needed. Between 2 and 3mm is total range I've used on different models

Hi EDFCrazy.
Thanks for replying to me. I will definitely go for the VT80.
I would like to compliment you on your very nice looking build. If I can get mine looking half as tidy as yours I would be very happy.
Can I please ask you what type of servos you used on the various controls ? Did you use the standard retracts and landing gear available for this kit ? And if so where did you hide the air tanks ?
And lastly which receiver are you using ? I couldn't make it out in the photo.
Thanks

Hi, thanks for the compliment. I used savox 1256 on elevator, sc0252 on ailerons, and sc0251 on flap and hitec 5245 mini on rudders. I used the std ripmax air gear set. I put the airtanks below the side trays but i had to trim the wood a bit to get the top of the bottle past, you can see in the picture. The former is still able to support the tray after cutting it like that.

Very nice EDF.... I have the same setup (VT80). Just with the the British scheme. I love it. Hoping to get a few more flights on mine this weekend.
If the weather is as nice as yours, I will for sure
Happy landings,
Morten

Hi Dave,
I'll try and grab some this week. The flying field is up in the hills in a place called Yuen Long.
It's about 30mins drive out of Central HK, so unfortunately you don't get to see the HK skyline with all the highrise etc.
I'll try post some up later today or tomorrow
Cheers,
Morten

Headed out about lunchtime and I got a few flights in. I didn't manage to get any airborne shots. I'll do that next time I head out (Next few days).
Here are a few shots though and a couple of videos flying in Hong Kong. The F4 belongs to my friend Leon - He's also the one helping me through my "Jet" transition
The first photo is of the flying field. I took a panoramic shot to get an idea of what it looks like. Next 3 shots are of my Xcalibur. Last shot is of Leon's F4. Unfortunately he wasn't able to fly yesterday, as his Jetcat fuel pump decided to die.
The next video is of my maiden start 2 months ago... My first Jet flight
https://vimeo.com/117643905 I'll try post some more as soon as I have some video or footage.
Cheers,
Morten

Yep, it's a Jetcat P80SE gas start. The gas would light off, but the fuel pump wouldn't introduce any fuel, so the turbine wouldn't accelerate.
We went into the GSU to test the priming function (Purge I think it was called), but the pump did nothing. We could hear a little clicking sound but it wouldn't turn.
The site is great. It's very nice. The only downside to it is, in the event that you have an issue with your model there is nothing but bush around the site.
There is apparently an F16, with a turbine and all the gear sitting somewhere in the bush. People saw it go in, but no one has found it. It's very, very dense.
The wind effects can get quite intense there too.
But hey.... you can't have it all
Cheers,
Morten

Hi Dave,
I have purchased the sport scheme Xcalibur.
Can I please ask you which servos (brand and model) you recommend for the various controls ?
Thanks

Last year I was shown a neat way to attached the canopy to the fuse without the need for hex keys. The idea is to insert the bolt head in a key hole slot cut in the canopy. The photo's should show what I mean but I will try to describe the method I used.
Install the bolt leaving leaving about 7mm of thread showing. Place the canopy in position with the fibreglass lugs in the slots but not pushed back to the engaged position . Note where the bolt head touches the canopy and mark the spot. Cut a hole in the canopy just large enough to accommodate the bolt head. I used an 11/32 drill bit. I then cut a narrow groove to the existing bolt hole with a dremel cutting drill. I took my time and made sure it was only just wide enough for the bolt shaft. The bolt head will not fit in the right position until you cut a small section out of the black fibreglass tube that encircles the original bolt hole. Attach the canopy so that the fibreglass lugs are in their slots and the bolt head is through the large hole. You should then be able to slide the canopy back to the fully locked position. I then screwed the bolt down until it just touched the canopy base and then after making sure it was a good fit I secured it in position with thread lock/ CA. To ensure that the bolt did not vibrate loose I placed a piece of fuel tubing over the bottom of the bolt threads. I also C/A 'ed the ply plate to harden the timber.
Credit for this idea belongs to a gentleman from Perth that I met at the Temora Jet Meet last year. ( I'm sorry but I can't remember your name.) Hope you find it useful.
Cheers,
Rick

I'd say 90% of what we sell have this set up as we have a package with JR extension leads using these servos.

We had a batch of Xcalibur's come in and go out yesterday, most with JR servos. 8421 or 8411 on aileron, elevator and Flap and 3401 on rudders, 579 on Nose steering.

I noticed in another RC Universe thread that there was a healthy discussion about JR servos versus Savox servos.

Sold a few with Savox servos, not had any issues with them, they are just not as smooth as the JR's. Savox have several 10-12kg servos suitable, plus the 1250 in the rudder

Thanks Dave
Just another quick (hopefully not silly) question
The JR 8421 description says "The DS8421 can only be used at 4.8v"
I intend to use dual 6.6V LiFe packs with a Powerbox switch.
Does that mean I cant use the 8421's with that setup ?
