Nev,

Are the chap I spoke to at the Greenacres fly in last year? If so, are you coming to any of the jet meets this year?

Cheers,
Simon

all I can say is that maybe this specific plane flys different

don't get me wrong , the first plane I had flew like a dream , I needed to offset the motor a bit with down thrust to get it flying straight with full pwer , but at least the elevator trim was level and wings were level too

bit disappointed .. any ideas?
We'll I made a set of new mounts and angled the turbine even more down thrust and that did not help much
yesterday I added 2 washers under the front bolts that hold the elevator to the booms changing the elevator incidence and that made a huge difference
Can it be I received a dud kit with the incidence between wing and elevator way off ??
if anyone else had this would appreciate your feedback

I have had the servo lead trapped under tail plane a couple of times which makes the trim out a little, I made the cut out in bottom of tail plane bigger to allow it to sit flat, it's only a small amount so not easy to see that it's out till you take off.

Hi Simon, Yes that's me. I very much enjoyed watching you fly your jet at Greenacres and our chat afterwards. As you can see I've made a start putting my Xcalibur together (at last), it's been/is a massive learning curve for me coming from all electric but with the help of the forum I'm sure I will achieve my goal.

I should like to get to some jet meets so I will have to pull my finger out and see what's on and where. I have only achieved my A certificate at the moment so it makes flying my jet (when it's finished) very limited but I do enjoy the sights and sounds of you skilled pilots putting your pride and joys through their paces.

Will we be seeing you at Greenacres this year?

Best Regards, Nev.

Nev,

Should be there if weather is okay. The Xcalibur jets fly really well from what I've seen, I'm sure you will love it when it's done. Get your B sorted, be good to see another jet jockey at the meetings.

Paul hi
thought the same but that was checked and was ok.
Will check wing with incidence meter against stab and see where the difference is
in any case looks way off

Dave,

I'm not yet a member of the JMA so how do I stand visiting these meets, is membership compulsory?

To fly yes, visiting is possible as we want to encourage new members. talk to me in the week and we can sort something if you are interested. Membership for the next 12 months starts this coming Saturday, £40. You can bring your model along and have it looked at by people who really know their stuff, membership is not all about flying at events.

Hey guys, I had the fortune of picking one of these models up. It will be here Monday, I was curious to see what everyone is running for servos in their models. I'm considering running either a K-60 or K-80 in it as this is my first turbine model. Thanks!!

Most of the packages I have sold use JR 11kg servos JR8421/JR8411 and JR3401 SAV 1250 on rudder. Also sold Savox SH252's but any 10kg on main controls and midi 4.5kg plus on the rudders you can choose reliable servos of your choice

Sounds good Dave, I found info in the manual to work with and put together a list of servos I will need for it. With your input, I feel confident that my choice is good. I have picked out these Hitec Servos for use;

HS-5645MG approx. 170oz/in(12.2kg/cm)@6V- 4 total for Ailerons, Elevator, and Flap(Digital Metal Gear)
HS-5245MG approx. 76oz/in(5.5kg/cm)@6V- 2 total for Rudder Pair(Digital Mini Metal Gear)
HS-645MG approx. 133oz/in(9.5kg/cm)@6V- 1 total for nose wheel steering (Analog Metal Gear)
HS-81 approx. 42oz/in(3.0kg/cm)@6V- 2 total for air valve actuation for brakes and retracts. (Standard Mini)

izzy, this is something that happened with a lot of Boomerang kits the booms where not located accurately and needed a bit of packing on the elevator to compensate, you have found the solution.

We just had another maiden of an Excalibur today at our club field. That makes 4. Thunderbird, Blue Angel, Brit, and traditional red/white/ blue. Motors include P-60, P-70, K-80 and Rabbit. It's a turbine powered Sweet Stik.

Hi Tom, That's a lot of Xcaliburs just from one local club!. It's like my neighborhood in which everyone drives the same cars when someone starts a new one. Enjoy.

Mike
p.s. the Big one is coming soon.

Keep going...our local club, with grass flying site has 10 more :-) We are 100% JetCat powered, mainly P-100RX. The Xcalibur has certainly been a game changer, with people getting their first turbine model because of the Xcalibur. I guess the biggest draw other than great flying is speed of assembly at the field. My example is one this coming weekend, I started building it one year ago this coming Wednesday and flew it on the Saturday morning. We are back at the same site this Saturday/Sunday, maybe I'll take a cake :-)

Our club is small and flies off grass...the excalibur is perfect. When i first moved to SC 4 yrs ago there was just 1 other jet flyer and he was not a member of our club. We now have 6 jet flyer s and another in the making. Not bad.

Tom

We are a big club (grown from a club of 40 to over 200 now) When I started flying jets there were 2 people flying turbine jets in this club, it grew with the technology, the early guys dragged Air cylinders 100 yards to fly JPX's, when JetCat started with a starter motor it all changed, we now have over 20 members flying jets and more taking it up all the time.

The Xcalibur is more than just a fun jet turbine model, last night I travelled to the east side of London to have dinner with a fellow Xcalibur owner Denis Ferrari from Italy. Denis visits the UK on work and said we should meet, his Xcalibur is due to fly this year (he needs to spend less time travelling to the UK :-) )
Really nice guy, thanks for dinner Denis! Another friendship launched by the power of this hobby
