Hi Dave,
thank you for nice evening last tuesday evening, it's been nice having met you in person. I did not have any doubts, but now we know in person each other I must happily say that - like all of us in this forum - you've have a deep huge passion in what you do as an hobby and for business too, that is building and then flying rc models, jet and not only!

I'm very happy and proud of our friendship.

...Sure, I should stop travelling so often there to UK for business and give little more time to my Xcalibur building, but, you know the story, business is business....no business...no Jet-A1...no Xcalibur

...even my Xcalibur will fly sooner or after

Thank you again!
Denis

I need some help with my plumbing! (Fuel tube sizes to be specific!)

The components
  • Stock tank (4mm Brass tubes with the 5/32 Dubro Barbs)
  • Dave’s High flow vent and Large Felt Clunk
  • GBR CAT (medium)
  • Then 4mm (OD) on the pump input

I’m okay with everything on the ‘Pressure’ side – its 4mm SMC Clear Tubing. Where I’m unsure is on the ‘Suction’ side (I seem to have different size barbs on all the components).

So, i'm assuming 1/8 (ID) Tygon for the clunk tube and the same for the tank to vent.
From the tank, I need to get on to 5.7MM (OD) barbs on the CAT – Large Tygon 3/16 (ID) fits the CAT but I worried it may be a little on the large size for the Tank outlet (4.7mm - what do you think..?)

Out of the CAT I then need to get from Large Tygon to 4mm SMC - how do i do that?

Thanks in anticipation!

We all use the MAP standard Bubble trap and that has 4.2mm od nipples with 5mm o/d barb sections We can then use 1/8 tygon or 4mm i/d 6mm clear.
If using that size of CAT you might need to increase the tank tube size. Or BVM/SMC 4/6 might go over those and work on the 5/32 barb

Thanks Dave - I don't think the 4/6SMC is going to fit the CAT Barbs (even when warm/hot) - I'm going to make life easy and get a MAP Bubble trap!

A belated thanks to Dave Wilshere for his kind invitation to join him and other members of the JMA for a day at Long Marston last Sunday, I had a great day and the weather was just about perfect. Cheers to Dave, John, Geoff and others for there help and advice and I look forward to doing it all again sometime soon (JMA membership application form printed). Now all I have to do is get my Xcalibur finished and pass my B test.

Nev.

Is anyone using HK electric retracts on the Xcalibur?
if so, which set?

This set looks almost identical to Airpower RA-250 but in electric (and fair price):

thanks.

So what tool(s) / techniques are folks using to drill the holes for the Air/Brake lines in the wheel wells..? I have a right-angle Dremel attachment and that's too big. I did read further back in this thread to use a hot piece of piano wire and burn a hole but I don't fancy that idea.

So what's the secret, what am I missing??

Following Dave suggestion, piano wire, bend 90 deg. then heat it very well and touch the point where you would like the hole. Do it few times and be patient. In my case it's been great.

Just after that, small round file to make the little hole larger unitl big enough like for the tube and that's it (y)

Hope it helps

Thanks Denis, so the ‘hot wire’ has worked okay for you! Does it leave any burn marks or is it pretty clean?

Only small area around, but as soon as you enlarge the hole with small round file, it takes away "brown area" around

...or you can bring the fuse to your family dentist and let it do the "surgery"...but not very practical..nor cost effective

They look OK, but you would have to cut a hole in the wing and stub roots, as the leg retracts AWAY from the unit. Also, the leg hole is 11mm, whereas most oleos for this jet are 1/2 inch or 12.7mm.

im thinking that if they are direct copies of RA-250, the trunion just might be reversible.

maabe these are better?
