Default XCalibur almost finished

A few pics of the build. It's nice with electric gear and brakes, frees up a lot of space. Thanks to Dave and the rest of the thread contributors, this airframe should work out nice. The Power Box Royal takes up a lot of space !!

Very clean install Saillplane! It looks like something that Airbus would dream up... I like it! I managed to get my CG back another 8mm by switching from 2S 3000mAh LiFe packs to 2S 2500mAh LiPo packs, and relocating from the nose to either side of the nose wheel well on the equipment trays. CG rests at 165mm with a full header tank and about 10mm of fuel in the main. A few pics of the battery location and everything installed. Going to have a fellow jet flyer look everything over and she is ready to maiden!

How did you make out Flaps?

Ive got about 9 flights on her now. Bit of a tail waggle.. but im installing a gyro and that will fix that( not that it really needs it..but because Ive never used a gyro before and this is an easy enough platform to learn on)

No maiden yet Vettster. It seems like all of the nice day's around here have been during the week when I'm away for work. The wind has been keeping me grounded. I'm hoping next weekend that Mother Nature is willing to play ball. She is ready to fly!

So as you guys may know by now, Im not thrilled with the looks of the Stock Canopy or how weak it is, so I decided to make my own. Its a much more sleeker design, much stronger and the air tanks still sit on top of the fuel tank.

Since I do have a mold.. I can make more than one send me a PM if your interested.

I was not able to find a military scheme anywhere. If someone is aware of any distributor that has a military scheme left in stock, please let me know.

I made the mistake assuming my 5 mm bolts were the longer ones since this kit is fairly new. They were the shorter ones and managed to push the nut out trying to engage the wing clamp. The good news is using angled forceps was able to put it back and pull into the housing. Recommend everyone check this before they popped the nut out of the housing. Once the bolt is in no need to remove. I was lucky, only took about 10 mins of probing but could have taken much longer.

heat the end of the brake line with a lighter. It will go soft. It takes a bit of practice.. you dont want it to soft either.

testing out my new self designed canopy. Lift at high speeds has decreased. This was a problem with the stock canopy. It has a much more jet like appearance now. My canopy is constructed of Aeropoxy epoxy and does not Tin Can as the stock canopy did. PM me if you would like me to make one for you!

A question for those who are flying this plane - do you think it will fly with a Kingtech G45 turbine? It's all I have at the moment, and since I am working with my wife's budget, no prospects for getting something else in the near future. Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Mark

a K45 would be too small. See if you can source yourself a boomerang nano that is perfect for a 45

Try the mini xcalibur or a Mini Avanti with the K45G. The standard Xcalibur is minimum 60Nm and even that would be a stretch.

The Xcalibur was flown on a MW44...but it depends what you want from the model. We have several Xcalibur's flying from our 90m grass strip with a P-60 and its ample.
The KT45 would fly it, but it would not have much vertical (a bit like the Mini with a P-20) The KT is way too big for the Mini.

Both of those airframes are too small for a KT45. Overpowered heavy planes short of fuel are not a good combination

Finally maidened the Xcalibur today! Got two flights in before the wind picked up enough to no longer make it fun. She flew like an absolute dream. A few clicks of down elevator were all that was required to trim it out. Seems to me that the K-100G is a good match for the airframe, although I really have nothing to compare it to. No surprises, and ended the day a very happy man. I know someone shot some video, and once I find it I will post it. WOOHOO!!

Hi everybody.
First of all i apologize with all you for my english, it's a very long time that i don't write or speak it.
Second: some month ago i buy an Excalibur jet, blue angel scheme, and it seems to have the same troubles reported in this forum by Vettster. I had need to add some washers for to change angle of incidence of the stabilizer before to obtain an good flyable model.
Since the model is the same of Vettster, same color scheme, maybe it is possible that an entire lot of production has this trouble. My questions: there is someone in this forum that has the same model and same color scheme?
He is able to report if his model has the same trouble?
Many thanks to everybody.

Shaker1 reported the same problem on page 68

I was on the verge of ordering a PB Mercury for mine, but just found out about the Cortex Pro and might use a JETI CB and the Cortex instead! Good to know it will fit though!

I am thinking of doing this jet in EDF, and I can install a 16lb thrust fan for an AUW of about 22.6 lbs. This is thrust/weight ratio of 0.71. That sounds like enough.

What do you folks think?

Don't do it!
Inlets are the wrong shape, not enough area. Just not an airframe designed with EDF in mind
