Behotec 220??
Guys,
Can anyone who is running a Behotec 220 let me know what you think of it? Reliability, power, throttle response, quality etc etc??
I am looking for a turbine for my Tomahawk Hawk and been toying between P200, P300 and Behotec 220.
P200 is a proven workhorse and seems as reliable as a Swiss watch
P300 seems to be a bit of an unknown and is extremely loud from what I've heard (no pun intended!)
Behotec 220 seems to push out a lot of power for a 160 sized can but I wonder if that is to the detriment of reliabiltiy etc as extracting the absolute most is often a trade off against something else.....
Any feedback gratefull received!

Mark, like I said in the PM there are quite a few Behotec 200's in Norway now, and they have been very reliable and
very easy to operate. Lots of power, very rapid throttle response and there have been no mishaps here with that
turbine. Mine started up on the very first attempt and runs like clockwork, very nice to fly the F-16 with that kind of
power compared to my old P-180 which was powerful, but an oldfashioned turbine with very slow response and
higher consumption.

you are obviously thinking along the same lines as me. I too would like to use a Behotec 220 but TBH I would not buy one until I see one with 20+ hours & 100+ cycles without issue. The problem is they have not been out long and the chances are all you will get at the moment are dealers or mates of Behotec saying they are the mutts nuts.

I can get you in touch with a friend of mine here in Germany who is operating a JB 220 for a while now. He reported about the turbine on a german forum. I'll see if I can post some of the information he shared here on RCU-

my 220 has about 10 hours(about 50 flight). Bought in june .
The engine runs very well, like all behotec that I have. I used it @ 38°C and hi humidity level without problem. No one startup failed. Low fuel consumation compared to 160-180N class engine in the same model.
After me other 2 friends bougth it. All very happy.
When I reach first 20 hours I send you a message!
Here you can see my 1/4 starfighter during the first flight with jb220. About 3 liters in 7 minutes of flight. 30 kg take off

I am using 2, one in the TD Hawk and one in the Skygate L39.
Both very reliable, very fast startup, very nice residual thrust for landings but super quick pickup, very fast response and most importantly EXCELLENT fuel consumption which a lot of people overlook.
You will not go wrong picking this power plant.

Shoot me a email. I am picking a pair up at Jet power. One is for a customer and the other is spare. I have one in my airworld F-100 and am impressed enough to order another straight away ( Even without a plane to put it in ) I have not had a load of flights on it, but the 10 or so that I have had have all been perfect. As I said. I would not hesitate to get another.
I also know of where there is an almost new one thats fitted to a big Airworld twin seat F-100 thats coming up for sale turnkey. But then again, what interest would you have in a large scale turnkey jet thats built by one of Europe's best builders. Every whistle, every bell, perfectly practical and operates faultlessly LOL

I am running a few behotec motors (66hp, 180 gold and a 220) and all of them operate flawlessly with many hours on the clock. Not that I would expect something different from an engine produced in larger numbers, so just mentioning. The JB220 in our Airworld Hunter produces 22,8kg of thrust and is now flying its second season in the model with a total of 20 hours running time. What impresses me the most is that the motor does not change its habits even with 38 degrees celcius - yes it's been a hot summer here in Germany. The kero start sequence on those engine is smooth as silk and the engines never spit or cough (whatever you may call it) on acceleration or as mentioned in hot weather or high humidity. I would never start to argue about thrust compharisons to other turbine engine brands but to me it seems that the behotec's are keeping their promises in terms of manufacturer specs.

I don't have the 220 but I do have the 180G, its very strong and has Piston Engine acceleration from 60k RPM to 123k RPM.
ONly thing is that on diesel the motor doesn't have the nicest start, but that has to do with the ECU settings,

I took a look at this one and the rest of the BVM's that are up for sale and my jaw hit the ground.
What magnificent aircraft.
The builder(s) are to be commended.
I could easily see myself acquiring any of them to fly.

Peter Ayache at altecarerc.com has carried the behotec line for years and just had a 220 ordered for me from him. I have the original 180 and it's a beast, incredible sound, low fuel consumption and reliable with 24hrs on it now. I have no doubt the 220 is even better in all aspects for its output. Peter as most of you know is always there if help is needed and service unmatched.
