Alex,

Congratulations for this building. Will you do any kind of weathering on the rivets? When will the lenses be in stock again?

Best,

Gabriel

Hi Gabriel, Thanks... I doubt I'll make another batch of lenses, I'm a commission builder mainly and make batches of these products as I build clients models.

Its finished now so onto the next one, the final picture unless your a 'build stream' subscriber...

I'm really happy with this one

My NASA F-104 is done sans CG. It's been a fun project, but I am glad to see it completed. Thanks to Alex for fielding questions during the assembly.

Unfortunately no. I've had some interruptions to the build. I hope to be in the garage around mid May to get something accomplished on her.
I hope you post more pictures of your build and detail things you did throughout the process. What CG did you use?
Thrust line? Empty weight?
Did you ever build a test rig for the engine? I'm still open to sending you mine. Love to have a real thrust number.

I thought these gear locks were a good idea as this model has a habit of collapsing on its mains.

I installed a valve to allow for hydraulic lock in down position anytime the valve is closed. I considered a solenoid valve but they can fail to open.

757Driver the SM F-104 is like the SM F-16 that if loses air while lock down the main gear will unlock?

You are correct. The odds of this system losing air pressure are extremely remote if kept isolated from door, brake and nose gear systems. It is possible to add the solenoid valve and have it close once the gear is down, thus locking the gear. There are no mechanical down locks of any type.

Update on my 104: I retrofitted my F-104 with the BVM slat system, which is much more robust than what comes from the factory. I also went with BVM's elevator pushrod system and reinforced the rudder to eliminate lateral play. More recently I installed nav lights from Details4Scale and lenses from The Little Jet Company.

Its finally flown! It performed flawlessly and without incident, the best part of my job by far is watching my clients enjoy their new toys. The JB220 is a great match for this model. If you don't have a turbine for your own yet then get one of these.

Thanks Roy, Yes we got plenty of video footage, I'm just trawling through it and putting an edit together.

Cheers, Alex

Thanks Alex. Looking forward.

I just received mine so I need to sign up to your photo stream service before I start the build. Moving home at moment so no time to start the build yet. I too have gone for the JB220 - bought a second hand one with low hours from a chap on the JMA website.

Hi Jason, sorry for the late reply, I only noticed your posts when I went to post the maiden video. I used the higher thrust line as we installed a 22kg turbine, I don't have any pics of the rudder mod other than some metal tube around the hinges to help rigidity.

Video of the maiden flight.

The entire video is great, but the view from inside the cockpit is superb!! A view from inside during the landing would have been "icing on the cake"!

Congrats!
