T-38 Jet Rally, Lubbock, TX - Oct 4, 5, & 6
Hey guys, hope you've marked your calendars for the new resurrected T-38 Jet Rally at Lubbock (Abernathy) coming up very soon. We're looking for great weather, all the laid back flying you want (burn all the kero you bring), wide open spaces all directions, covered pit area reserved for our guests, 3000 ft + runway, concessions for lunch, and to top it off, a Sat night dinner catered by Abuelos - sponsered by the CD, John Johnson at his house for the pilots and significant others. Can't beat all that for a mere $25.00 landing fee which includes one free lunch.
Come on over and see what Texas hospitality is all about! Lotsa fun and lotsa flying. Turbines, ducted fans, and edf's welcome!!!!
YA'LL come on over - October 4, 5, & 6th!! See you then!
Regards, Les Morrow

Dan, camping is allowed, however, there are no hookups. We are currently planning to have one of our club members stay in his RV at the site for the duration. Most of us leave trailers and tents in place overnight.
Looking forward to seeing all you guys at the meet. Should be lotsa fun and flying.

One other thing I keep forgetting to mention. John Redman and JetCat are sponsoring our event and will be giving out a quart of JetCat turbine oil to each registered pilot in attendance. We really appreciate JetCat's sponsorship of this event!!

Only a week and a half til our meet. Starting to get really excited with it. JetCat sponsoring us with turbine oil and Dreamworks bringing "The Rig", one cat help but get excited. Looks like a pretty good crew showing up from OKC/Tulsa, San Angelo, Carlsbad, DFW/Central Texas areas to name a few. We've got the dinner plans arranged and my chuck wagon chef buddy is ready for lunch. Weather is settling down now and is expected to be mid 70's for hi's and mid 50's for lo's. Winds this time of the year are SSE less than 10mph avg. Looking forward to meeting a lot of you and getting a jet network started in West Texas.

Here's a list of a few that we have from our other big fly in: http://www.westtexaswarbirds.com/Hotels.html.
And here's the one for Hawthorn Suites: http://www.hawthorn.com/hotels/texas...Fadj7AodfhEAyA
heres a quote from the other thread: Hey guys, what is the closest "recommended motel" for the event.Sail:
The guys that came from out of town to West Texas Warbirds just a few weeks ago stayed at the Hawthorn Suites hotel:
It was a good deal and rather easy to get to. Nice place with hot breakfasts. I'd call them and see what kind of deal you can get. The pilots who stayed the other week were paying $80.00/night. You might also go to our WTW event page and investigate the hotels we have listed there. Any of the ones along I-27 would be easiest to get back and forth from the field. www.westtexaswarbirds.com

Mark, The guys from Tulsa are staying at the Best Western Plus, Windsor Lubbock. Rate with about any discount is $72 per night for Double Queen Bed room. We have two rooms reserved for 3rd, 4th and 5th. Right now I think both rooms have 2 folks staying in them but if one falls out you are welcome to bunk with us if you can stand the old civilians.
Not sure this is the closest motel but they all seemed to be pretty easy access and about the same distance from Abernathy.

Boy, I'm in a dilemma here. There are two events on the same weekend and both within an easy drive from Austin. Lubbock (433) miles or Shreveport (300) miles. The difference in mileage is not a factor for me. I have friends in both places and would really like to attend both events. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. Maybe I should stay home and clip my toenails that weekend, maybe take a bath. Lord knows I need to do both.

Direction To the WINGS field outside Abernathy, TX
Abernathy, Tx is on I-27/US87 about 17 miles north of Lubbock.
Exit I-27/US87 at (Main Street, FM 2060) Exit 21 in Abernathy. Head east on FM 2060 for approximately four miles. Turn left at the flags. Proceed north on the dirt road parallel to the Abernathy Municipal Airport runway until you reach the flying site, Abernathy Aerodrome!
***Those of you who have Garmins, Tom Toms or any other GPS navigation device should understand that most likely you will end up on a wild goose chase if you try to rely on your device to get you directly to the field! PLEASE, set up your navigation to get you to Abernathy, TX , THEN follow the simple instructions above to get to the field on your own. Just take my word for it... ***<iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=33.842796,-101.762238&spn=0.012475,0.018239&z=15&output=embed"></iframe>
