Default Need a new sport jet

Been a long time since I treated myself and after a string of scale models I'm feeling the need for a sport jet. 180-220 size. Just not sure what to go for. So, tell me what's hot and what's not. Current list includes....

2.5m Futura
2.8m Avanti XXL
Shockwave
Ultra Lightning
Kingcat
Aurora

My preference is more for constant speed style aerobatics than race track pattern flying but a little point and squirt wouldn't hurt me!

Available time nowadays means my preference would be for painted in the mold but the Futura is so good it still makes the list!

So, any other ideas out there?

2.5m Futura Ugly
2.8m Avanti XXL Maybe
Shockwave Ultra bandit wanabe
Ultra Lightning Boring
Kingcat Old heavy and boring. Bobcat is better.

Surely it needs to be a Ultra Bandit or a Wizard if you fancy something a bit smaller.

J,

Some would say that was a text book reply from you LOL

UB would have made the list but I just struggle to pay the UB asking price. Not because I can't afford it (although the wallet would whimper somewhat) but because I just don't think it offers enough over some others to justify the price difference. For an ARF there's a stack of work to do too (again compared to the likes of the Shockwave "wannabe"!)

Anyway, don't want to turn this into another BVM value for money debate!

Cheers
Mark

I'm not a "Scale" guy... so most of my fleet are sport planes. But, when I think "Sport" in the pure sense, I think, low cost also. (helps keep the stress down) How about something like a Turbinator ARF, and a K-100? If you have some radio gear, and old retracts in the shop... it could be flying for $3k. Then again... it's hard to beat a Falcon/Tornado and an 18# engine. Find a lightly used K-80, P-80, 54 MK3, 54SS... and you would be flying for under $2k.

Don't get me wrong... I love the big, full comp models you listed.... but +$10k isn't "FUN" to me.

Just a suggestion.

Im a little bias as I just picked up a 1.9 futura..The quality is unbelievable, im sure its the same on the larger one..I was looking at the Avanti, but for me I couldnt justify spending the money on a kit that was not all composite..Not sure if the larger one is or not...Didnt you have a Futura???

I've had 2 Futuras. If you've flown one you'll understand that even after that another one isn't a stupid idea LOL

The Avanti XXL is all composite. Just seems to be crazy priced in Europe compared to the US.

So Dave/Mark, are you going to spill the beans on what's coming? I guess its from comp arf?

Oh and BTW if you are interested here my take on the list you provided

2.5m Futura - Flies really well, which you know of course but its a bit ugly.
2.8m Avanti XXL - Looks great(much nicer than the Futura) but no one knows how it flies, apart from sebart(but I bet it will fly well)
Shockwave - New Kid on the block, Flies great. Heard from a couple of sources that the quality isn't up to what is expected(Don't kill the messenger). Can't comment myself as I have never looked at one closely. P.S. a great deal on one on the BMFA classifieds at the moment.
Ultra Lightning - Vested interest as I have one, flies great, looks are an acquired taste. Great value jet.
Kingcat - As its a twin boomer, its too close to a Boomerang. Nuff said.
Aurora - One word FUGLY. But it flies really well.

UB - Great flyer, great quality, not so great price. Now that its available in single seat version it looks brilliant.
Wizard - a better looking Futura/Avanti. Comes with great pedigree, Fancy buying one but its designed for horrible electric retracts so undecided.

Nope someone else. No news till its done. Manufacturers have no chance to test and sort/ship/transport before the interweb gets on it. Don't expect any information into next year, but like I said. I'm waiting for 2014

In my humble opinion:

A sport Jet means a fast jet.. the fastest ones in the list are the UL and Shockwave.

Aurora/Avanti arenīt built for speed at all / Kingcat is good but not as good as the cited above./Futura does great knife edge, but is not as fast as the two ones while the Shockwave does great knife edge.

The answer to me is the Shockwave.

Anyway, good luck whatever you choose.

p.s. ever considered Jack Hollandīs Jacknife? Never seen one flying but it is built for speed, and Jack has skills.
