Other than time, what makes the scalejet F-16 so hard to assemble? All the formers are installed, seems like normal build to complete the jet and then paint/details. I'm just curious some day down the road I thought about building one, this way I could build it from the start to hold the center tank and wing tank stores.

FB, I know ScaleJets started offering more "phases done" like Tomahawk does. But it just depends how much you want to pay from the kit base price to formers in, to gear plates in, flying surface hinge lines done, etc. It's 300 plus hours in the shop to build a show piece, a few guys I know have completed them. I had one to build for a guy but he changed his mind and cancelled the order when I sent him the math to complete it for competition. Or, of course...you can pay the factory to do the work!!! Depends what your goal is. I haven't seen a quote for a while from there but the one I was supposed to get was going to be $17k plus shipping and that was with fuse formers, gear plates installed but nothing else.

Rex, The quote I got about two years ago was around 13k and that was everything minus the light kit, pilot and aluminum exhaust nozzle

This a direct quote from the website:

"The complete jet kit will be supplied with all the main fuselage bulkheads and all wing, vertical fin and stabilizer spar tubes pre-installed during the moulding process. These parts are fitted to make sure that all dimensions, angles and incidences are correct and 100% straight. When you recieve the kit, you can plug in all the flying surfaces, so it will save you extra work.

All moulded parts have a white surface color, and so the finishing process are only filling, a light sanding, and painting. The basic hinging of the rudder, flaperons and leading edge are also done during manufacture, and will only need 'finishing'."

I was just hoping SM was going to be a bit cheaper is all that way I would not be tempted to just save a little more and go with the Scale-jets one. Im talking a few years down the road for something like a retirement gift to myself, but I will drop it, this thread if for SM f-16 and I wouldn't want something like this to get taken the wrong way and ruin their thread. I am excited to be a SM owner soon waiting to hear back so I can drop my deposit!

I can't believe some people are complaining about the price of a plane that they *might* buy years from now....

LOL! Dean you realize that I would gladly pay $100 per flight if you do get one right? So go right on ahead and order one up...

Looks fantastic...as does all of Likai's gear work! Thank you for continuing to bring large airframes into the market.

prices for the gear are pretty high... they aren't even electric, I suppose its the hydraulic steering? Is there a cheaper option for conventional servo steering?

I thought the same thing. I freaking hate air retracts. On something this size I would think that a screwjack would be pretty easy to incorporate for electronic retracts but what do I know.

I don't want electric retracts. I love the air/hydraulic system in my SM F-104.

Jeff you need to update your prices, you are icnluding both painted / non painted ordinance set, would make sense to only include the unpainted with the white gelcoat version and the painted set with the painted version.

Anton in your pictures it shows lights installed is this included with your kit? Are they pre-installed at the factory?

Default Steering ?

I would also like to know whether the lights come included from Skymaster or ?
As for the steering, can anyone explain the hydraulic steering a bit more-Is it just to make the model more scale or does it actually have any advantages ? How does it work ?
Thanks-Mike O.

I have always wanted to try hydraulics, if the steering is hydraulic and gear is air then I would just convert the gear to hydraulic to keep from having two systems. That being said it all depends on what they mean by hydraulic steering? Anton when you guys start a full up flight test could you try and get some flights with the all the missiles/wing tanks and the center tank on as well. I told myself I would not buy another F-16 till I could build one that flew with everything on it.

Something about the F-16 with all three on it does it for me

I agree with you Fender. I really dont want another system to worry about that may leak. Im a grader operator for the Northern Oil Patch and I have to mess with hydraulic leaks all the time. The last thing in the WORLD i want to do is mess with it again for my hobby. Its a fantastic system but no matter what kind of care you take, ram leaks, line leaks, etc are a very messy risk. And thats if your pump doesnt burn out. So air systems which can leak (at least its not messy) and now hydraulics to worry about...for some reason I cant help but think this is a bit of a step backwards compared to electric systems. I would rather not have to carry air pumps and now hydraulic oil. Yuck.
