RNMAA/JMA Topgun May 17/18 2014
Pete Disney and Pat Barnes have again arranged the date for JMA TOPGUN, it will take place over the weekend of May 17/18 2014.This year will be a two day jet event as opposed to the club day on the Saturday, with jets only on the Sunday as in previous years. The details of this event have been posted now as i have had many questions about the date of the 2014 event and i am aware that people are wanting to organsie their calendar for next year. The booking list will be opened at the beginning of january. For those who are thinking of attending but have not been before, the event is organised by the JMA and the Royal Navy Model Aircraft Association and is held at Royal Naval Air Station Merryfield which is situated in the heart of the Somerset countryside, it is a satellite airfield to the main air station at nearby RNAS Yeovilton.
It is a perfect venue for a jet meeting as anyone who has attended previous events would testify. It is an aviation training area for the resident squadrons at Yeovilton as well as many visiting aircraft. The only major building on the site is the control tower which is in the no fly zone anyway, the only obstacle you have to avoid is the deck! There is plenty of camping, hotels/B&B's in the area so accomodation will not be a problem if you are wanting to come for the whole weekend. The airfield is easily accessible and is only 10 miles from junction 25 of the M5 and a stones throw from the A303.
The Topgun part of the weekend will be held on the Sunday only, as before this will not impact on the flying as there will be no slots or static judging and is a flying only event. 2014 will see the a few new trophies to be given out of which more details will be given later on. As before a donation will be made to Royal Naval Benevolent trust http://www.rnbt.org.uk/
I have attached a few pictures from last years event

The entry list for Top gun is now closed. For those who have yet to pay, we are now inside the two week window prior to the event which means payment will now be at the higher rates detailed on the JMA website http://jmajets.co.uk/board/viewforum.php?f=23

Well, the weather forecast is superb! and we have a healthy entry list. Just a few do's and don'ts with regard to use of the airfield (postcode for which is TA19 9HN). The speed limit across the airfield is 20mph, please stick to it also please be careful of your speed when coming through Ilton. On entry to the airfield you will be directed to the left through the barrier. Please follow the perimeter track until you come to runway 03, which will be the second runway you come to. We will be using the east/west runway tomorrow, I will be on the airfield by 0800 setting up. Do not drive down the main runway, vehicle traffic on the main runway is kept to an absolute minimum. We will be pitted on a part of the main runway for Sunday as we will be using the North/South runway.
The use of overflow tanks is mandatory as every effort must be made to keep fuel from staining the runway as some resurfacing work has been carried out in the last 12 months. This is a two day jet meet and flying times for the Saturday and Sunday are 1000 (or post pilots briefing) to 1700 for jets, other model types such as electric, petrol prop jobs etc are up until 1900.

Great day today after yesterdays 'fun' Breakfast at 7 on the way and a packed day flying with my Xcalibur, DJ Vampire, GJC Mig 15 and a EDF Spark. Accompanied by my youngest who had only ever visited the "Biblical" CJ at Xmas and told me later that I don't have much fun at these flying events! Was buzzing about today all the way home-but that might have been the ice cream, chocolate and Pizza :-) bad dad! She loved meeting Jamie and fellow Birdie basher Potter.
Each year the previous OA winner helps judge and we had a difficult job today picking out a winner, there were more than one for each class.
Great day, fabulous venue, lovely part of the country, big thanks to the JMA guys who worked on it and the RN model club people who organised the site.

Your daughter is a terror Wilshere Now I know she was there, maybe it wasn't such a bad thing I was working this weekend. I don't think I could have taken the abuse! From a bunch of blokes, I can live with it, from an 8 year old girl - that's not where I planned on being at this stage in my life, lol!
