Default JL F22Raptor

Hi Guys.
I would like some feed back from people that have built and flown a Jet Legend F22, (PLEASE ONLY THE GL F22) I did the maiden on mine a couple of days ago with a 20 knt breeze I fly of grass and I have a KT 140 in it the CG is 200 mm back from the leading edge which is where most seem to have it, when it is sitting on the ground it has a 30 mm AoA on the leading edge. when I took off last time I had to pull in full Elevator to (50 mm) rotate and it was a very flat climb out but it flew like it was on rails. Now this is where it gets tricky yesterday I took it up to the field there was a nice breeze blowing but I could not get it to rotate at all, as I said the field is grass but the grass is very short and hard (perfect), has any one had this same problem I tend to think it is nose heavy but the CG seems to be in the right place. The brakes were spot on no binding take off flaps12mm.
Many thanks for your feed back.
Cheers
Mav

Hey Mav, mine is set at 7 3/4" from nose/ fuse seam ( just slightly forward from wing leading edge ) I don't remember what mm that came out to be but I barely have to give any ele input to get it to rotate and slows down very nicely. One of my favorite jets. If you need any further help let me know. Scott

this was wings on gear down with 50ounces of fuel in tanks. I've got 10mm on flaps but I don't even use them for take off.

Takeoff flap not necessary - remember that any flap setting blanks the elevators slightly reducing efficiency!

Try to put a stiffer spring in the nose oleo. It is very soft and gets easily fully compresed in the grass

That's the solution for the problem. Had the same issue with mine. I thought it was nose heavy but it was indeed caused by the soft nose spring. No idea what happens on tarmac, though. The 200mm CG is spot on.

Mavrick,

Barry has been flying his JL F-22 for a couple years now. You can PM him and find out his CG set up and control surface deflections. His plane fly's like the real thing and is always a crowd pleaser. When we were at FL jets flying off the grass field he changed out the nose strut to a trailing link strut and it made a HUGE difference in his take offs and landings. It made the plane very controllable and it also stopped jarring the crap out of it rolling in the grass. I know its not scale but it will save a lot of wear & tear on your jet.

Sorry for the late reply. I had approx 50 ounces in the two saddle tanks a little less than half with the uat full.

Thanks guys for the reply's, you are right about the nose wheel being soft I looked at that but when I compressed it I still had about 12 mm of AoA so I sort of dismissed it. Dirk I will see what I have in the way of trailing links it has to be the same length as the original as it just falls short of the front former when it is retracted. Failing that I will try and find a stiffer spring, what I have done in the past is put a length of silicon fuel tubing inside the spring this helps stiffen it up some what. I will also try it with out flaps I won't be able to do anything until next week but I will let you all Know how it goes. Dirk I will speak to Barry about his we have spoken about it before.
Cheers

I have seen Barry fly his a few times and he seems to have his dialed in. I have a yellow f22 and I have noticed mine is quite sensitive to the CG yet I only notice it on take off in flight and landing it dosent make much of a difference. I moved one battery further forward about 10" and on my first take off I noticed it took a bit more effort and more speed to get her to rotate. Nothing uncontrollable or dangerous but I did notice it a little.
Im not sure of the JL but on the yellow part of this could be traced back to location of main gear well behind the CG. Of course thrust vectorig changes all that and I can have her breaking ground in less than 100' I'm sure you'll get her sorted out my raptor is by far my favorite jet. She's a gentle smooth flying lady but one flip of the TV switch and she turns into a freak..
