Default X-Treme Jets F-4C Phantom and F15

Hey guys I'm still doing resurch for a home for my P 80 pumped up to 21-22 pounds

My last post opened my eyes to the fact I need a bigger budget. So I got a plan to have about $1800-2500 after Christmas

So my dream bird would be an F4 and the X-treme f4 seems to be a good fit for a p80
but there are not a lot of build threads on this jet.

I thought X-tream and skymaster shared molds but the skymasters is so much bigger.?

The only othere option on my list is the X-treme F15

any one got eathere of these with a p80? grass? Thanks

I flew many of the X treme F15's and built a couple as well. It will fly on a P80 fine. Just keep it light. Grass field won't be a problem.
The F4 is a little different and is a bit more aggressive.

FYI. Skymaster owns X-treme jets so the quality is fantastic.

There are several of the xtreme jets F-4s flying. Its smaller than the Skymaster one (by a significant margin) and is also a bit smaller than the BVM one.

Mine is powered by a P-120SE, and its not over-powered by any means. I think that even turned up, the F-4 would be a dog with a P-80. I've flowm mine off of grass too, and the takeoff roll was significantly longer. It would probably be 500' or more with a P-80 and the climb would be very anemic.

The F-15 would be a much better fit for the P-80.

If you want to have decent performance and optimize your available thrust, I would rather go with plane that has a straight pipe.
You will loose at least 15% with the bifurcated pipes. Xtreme F16 small and medium size seems to be more suited to your turbine/field. I have the small one with an Amt mercury, a bit more thrust than the P80 but heavier as well and
I fly off grass without trouble(430ft). The bigger 1/6,75 is probably even better.

Cheers

Ya thanks for the inputs I was told this p80 was pumped to 21-22 pounds wich is way more than I'm getting from my 2 very heavy AMT 180s.

I guess I need a bigger motor for my plans.

I thought about bout takeing my AMT 180 out of my CAI Razor and Falcon 120 and putting them something cool like a Byron F15 and putting the p80 in the razor for even more speed.

I'm currently building a Byron f16 I was going to make turbine but my One of my AMT180 let it's bearings go and AMT Netherlands wants $980 pluse shipping to fix.

It sucks I like the JetLedgen F18 also but see most are useing 30 pounds of thrust

1/6.75 F16 is not avail. I tried to order one recently dont know if they will ever be. I was reading the thread on the 1/8 F16 seems like people are having trouble fitting a p80 in it. If you want an F15 Mike I have a Yellow F15 RTF minus turbine we may be able to work something out on.
It would be at the upper end of your budget but Im pretty sure MOST everyone will agree its a better kit than the Xtreme. The one I have actually originally flew on a 20 pound P80. Let me know if you'd like to know more about it.

I agree that the X-treme F-4 would be marginal with 21-22# thrust, especially off of grass. If you had a long paved runway to fly off of it might be OK. The right engine for it is probably a 120. I have a M140 in mine and that's plenty of power.

Joe,

I have the 120 SE in mine, and I kind of wish it was a 140 - unless the 140 uses significantly more fuel that the 120, or is significanlty heavier, both of which I doubt.

The 120 pushes it around fine in the air, but the acceleration is not stellar, especially on grass, and after takeoff, the climb is not stellar either and it takes some time to get to altitude "get up on the step." I suck the gear up on mine ASAP after liftoff and that helps, but I do wish I had 3-4 lbs more thrust during takeoff and climb out.

I'm adding wing tanks to mine for better visibility and I think I'm going to be wishing for a 140 even more...

Bob,

I guess I made the right choice then. The Merlin 140 is smaller and lighter than a P120, and is quite good on fuel consumption. It's basically the same engine as a Jet Central Cheetah. I'm quite happy with the performance.

Thanks for the feedback.

Joe
