Default Cheap Jet

I'm looking for a cheap aerobatic jet for a P80. I liked the Turbinator but I think it is no longer in production. Is there any similar jet around?

Thanks,

JoanC

Hi JoanC,
I think you can not go wrong with ModellbauUSA Tornado or either The Navy Caty from Flymodel World in China.

Thanks all for your answers. Of course Aquaskiman I was asking for a RELATIVELY cheap jet. I have a P80 that has no home and do not want to spend a lot of money.

I'm sure Marcelo that both jets fly well, but I am looking for something different. I own a Boomerang XL and want another type of jet.

Carlos gracias pero no tengo ganas de construir, prefiero un ARF.

A P80 is physically far to big for those planes

Turbinator for sale

http://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/showthread.php?t=207321

Edit: Sorry, didn't notice your country. Shipping would be a problem I'm sure.

Shokjet ARF flys just like a Kaos and it's $500,cheapest of the cheap no retracts the only thing you need to buy is a UAT and TBM's 103oz blow molded fuel tank I have a P-80SE in mine and it's a tight fit but I didn't have to cut the sides off. Power is just right for me and if you like to do unlimited vertical victory rolls. If you go this route I can send you some pictures of my installation. LDS sells Turbinator short kits much cheaper than Zirolli plus excellent quality. He also has his own line of jet kits all wood of course. Let me know what you decide I would like to know.

Thanks and good luck with what ever you choose.

Checkout troybuiltmodels.com They sell the Shokjet. They use to have my P-80 conversion picturies on their web site but I haven't looked lately. I changed the set-up to move the turbine farther forword to remove all nose weight. I used a 7.4V 3000mh nimh for the engine and 7.4V 4500mh nimh for the radio with an MPI voltage regulator.I can send photos of my latest set-up if anyone would like. DO NOT CHANGE THE THRUST ANGLE OF THE TURBINE. Ask me how I found that out.

The P80 will fit just fine. I've seen a bunch of them with that engine.

I know guys "poo-poo" on the shock jet... and everyone calls it a trainer. But in reality, its just a nice sport flyer. I have one with a JC Falcon (22lbs) and its fun to fly.

Modellbau F-86D and by definition is a JET.
$700 arf with gears and brakes, not bad at all.
Needs some work though especially in the wings if you fly from grass.

There is nothing wrong with a shockjets except if you are one of those that go around criticizing others' landings, giving advice etc and all you fly is a shockjet. Or if you challenge others to fly real jets in certain conditions and then pull out your shockjet to "show how its done". OR if you tell people they cant fly jets when all you fly is a shockjet and act all serious at the field like this is the "Real thing". Then I agree with those people who dog it.

But an easy to fly, no bragging rights, "just keep my turbine safe" sport flyer there ya go!

I believe that price $760.00 is without struts, wheels, brakes and air system which is another $500.00 I personally don't care for the snoz version of the F-86 they should have made the fus with 2 nose pieces and had your choice. Which I believe would have or close to doubled their sales.

How cheap are you talking? It's hard to beat a Falcon 120 or Tornado. The lowest cost way to go is, as Carlos suggests, is to build or kit bash one out of wood.

I built my first turbine jet years ago for about $1500-1600 including the engine. I paid $1000 for a used Ram500 and kit bashed a Balsa USA Enforcer. I did use retracts/wheels/brakes left over from a crashed DF. The fuel tank is a 64 oz. juice bottle and the UAT homemade. Other than the engine the biggest expense was for the servos and receiver. I bought the Enforcer kit at a swap meet for $40. Today that kit is $140. Even if you had to buy new landing gear you could build a similar airframe today for less than $1000.

It proved to be a great flying plane. I flew the crap out of it for a few years, racking up over 250 flights. For the past several years I've put on only a few flights per year, mainly because I now have 5 jets.

I did a build thread on RCU at the time. Search for "Turbine Enforcer" if you're interested.

+1 on the Falcon 120, they're now the Tornados

They cost 300 + shipping.... with a P80 some really nice speeds can be achieved

Right on Aqua. "Cheap Jet". Isn't that called an oxymoron?
Rather, if you really could find a "Cheap Jet", It would be called the "Oxymoron".

Hello again:

Another option is the EXM Mini, for 6-8kg is perfect. I have one for me in the way.
Regards from Spain.
